To draw a Zombie step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to go at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below. The new lines in each step are shown in red, and each step is explained in the text below the photo, so you'll know exactly what to draw in each step. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods! Take your time and draw at your own pace.

 

The written step-by-step video tutorial:

 

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

 

Step 1: Draw two small circles near the top of the page for the zombie's eyes. The head will be slightly tilted, so draw the eye on the right a bit lower. Add a line under each circle for bags under the eyes.

 

Step 2: Inside each eye, draw a small dot for the pupils. Draw a couple of lines inside the eye on the right for a half-closed look. Between the zombie's eyes, draw two small triangular shapes for the nostrils.

 

Step 3: Below the nostrils, draw a curved line for the top of the mouth. Below the mouth, draw three small squares for the zombie's teeth.

 

 

 

Step 4: Under the teeth, draw a curved line similar to the letter U for the bottom part of the mouth. Inside the mouth, draw three more squares for the lower teeth and a couple of curved lines for the zombie's tongue.

 

Step 5: Under the eye on the right, draw a curved line for the high cheekbone. Add the zombie's lower jaw by drawing a line along the edge of the mouth but make the right side wider. To the left of the eyes, draw a line similar to a backward letter S for the cheekbone and temple.

Step 6: On the left side, draw a curved line for the zombie's half-eaten ear. Lightly sketch a curved line over the eyes for the top of the head. When you get the curvature of the head right, darken the lines. Add a few short strokes along the head for the remaining strands of hair.

 

Step 7: To the right of the head, draw a curved line for the thumb. Curl the line for the thumb so that it's sort of similar to the number 6. To the right, draw a couple more curved lines for the index and middle fingers reaching out. The zombie's fingers are folded, so they should look oval- like. At the tip of each finger, add a square-like shape for the fingernail. Make the nails jagged and broken. Add a couple of lines under the tips of the fingers for the rest of the folded fingers.

 

Step 8: To the right, draw the ring finger and pinky the same way. Draw the zombie's fingers reaching forward using a series of curved lines. At the tip, draw the fingernails as square-like shapes. At the bottom, draw a couple of curved lines for the palm of the hand facing down.

 

 

 

Step 9: Draw a couple of lines that connect the zombie's hand to the head to create the arm coming forward. To the left of the arm, near the jaw, draw a couple of curved lines for the shirt sleeve. Don't overlap the face with these lines. The head should be resting on the raised shoulder.

 

Step 10: Under the zombie's head, draw a V-shaped line for the shirt's collar. Use jagged lines to make the collar appear worn and tattered. On the left side, draw a couple of curved lines with a jagged lower edge for the other sleeve.

Step 11: Under the sleeve, draw two long, vertical lines for the zombie's other drooping arm. At the bottom, add the hand and fingers folded back using a series of curved lines.

 

Step 12: On the left side, draw a long, curved line for the hunched back. Add another curved line on the right for the other side of the zombie's torso. Draw the frayed edge of the shirt at the bottom. Inside the torso, draw a hole using jagged lines.

 

Step 13: Below the shirt, on the left, draw the pant leg using a couple of vertical lines. Don't overlap the drooping hand. The bottom of the pant leg should bend to the left a bit. Using jagged lines, fray the bottom edge and draw a hole inside the zombie's pant leg.

 

 

 

Step 14: Draw a couple of sloping lines for the shin section of the leg. On the left side, draw a curved line for the zombie's heel. On the lower, right side, draw another curved line for the big toe. To the left of the big toe, draw three more curved lines for the other toes. Add a curved line at the tips of the toes for the toenails.

 

Step 15: Draw the zombie's pant leg on the right the same way. First draw the top using a couple of vertical lines. Then add a hole and the frayed bottom edge using jagged lines.

Step 16: Draw the foot on the right the same as the one on the left. Start with vertical lines for the top. Then add the zombie's toes at the bottom using a series of curved lines.

 

 

 

Step 17: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your zombie drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

 

Final Step: Color your zombie using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use green for the zombie's rotting skin. Color lightly at first. Then build up to the level of darkness that you like. Use orange for the shirt and blue for the pants. Use yellow for the zombie's eyes, teeth and nails. Color the tongue pink and the inside of the mouth brown. Use bit of brown all over the body for the grave dirt stains. Don't forget to pause the video after each step to draw at your own pace.
