The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw two short, horizontal lines for Frankenstein's monster's eyebrows. Sketch lightly at first. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines and make them thicker. Curve the inner tips of the eyebrows up to give him a furrowed brow. Add a curved, vertical line on either side to make the brow extra thick.
Step 2: Under each eyebrow, draw a half-circle for Frankenstein's monster's eyes. Don't make the eyes too big. Drawing small half-circles makes the eyes seem half-closed. Inside each eye, at the top, draw a small dot for the pupils. Draw a curved line under each eye for the bags under the eyes.
Step 3: Between the eyes, at the bottom, draw a shape similar to the letter C on its side for the nose. Draw an extra curved line at the top for the bridge of the monster's nose.
Step 4: Far down below the nose, draw a couple of curved lines for the open mouth. The shape of the mouth should be similar to the letter D on its side. Inside, at the bottom, draw a small rectangle for Frankenstein's monster's teeth. Shade the inside of the mouth except for the teeth. Add a line at the bottom for the lower lip.
Step 5: On either side of the eyes, draw a short, angled line for the high cheekbones. Below the mouth, draw a horizontal line for Frankenstein's monster's big lower jaw/chin. Connect the cheekbones to the line at the bottom to form the rest of the jaw.
Step 6: On either side, at the top, draw a short, vertical line to make the head taller. Draw a curved line at the top to close off the shape of the hair. Frankenstein's monster's head should be very blocky.
Step 7: On either side of the head, near the cheekbones, draw a curved line for Frankenstein's monster's ears.
Step 8: On either side of the jaw, draw a tiny rectangle for the base of the bolts on the neck of Frankenstein's monster. At the tip of each base, draw a bigger rectangle for the head of the bolts. The big jaw is blocking the view of the neck. At the tip of each base, draw a bigger rectangle for the head of the bolts. Add a couple of lines inside for extra detail.
Step 9: Draw a line on the forehead for the scar Frankenstein's monster got when his brain was put in. Draw a series of small rectangles along the path of the line for the stitches.
Step 10: To the left of the head, draw a series of curved lines for the top part of the arm coming forward. The lines should overlap each other, and they should slope toward the lower, left side. At the bottom end, draw a series of curved lines similar to the letter U for the fingers. These arcs for Frankenstein's monster's fingers should get smaller toward the left. Add an angled line inside the first two fingers for fingernails.
Step 11: To the right of the fingers, draw a line similar to the letter J for the thumb. At the bottom, a couple of wide, curved lines for the palm of Frankenstein's monster's hand. Add an angled line to the thumb for the nail. Below the hand, draw a couple of curved lines for the bottom of the coat's cuff.
Step 12: Draw the arm on the right the same way as the arm on the left, only the mirror image of it. Draw the top of the arm as sloping, curved lines that overlap a bit. Then at the end, draw a series of thin, curved lines for Frankenstein's monster's fingers coming forward.
Step 13: To the left of the fingers, add another thin, curved line for the monster's thumb. At the bottom, draw a series of wide, curved lines for the bottom of the hand and the coat's cuff.
Step 14: Under the head, draw two vertical lines for the inside of Frankenstein's monster's coat. Curve those lines out toward the arms to create the outside of the coat. Add zigzag lines at the bottom for the tattered shirt. At the top, draw a few lines for the coat's lapels and for the monster's chest.
Step 15: Below Frankenstein's monster's torso, on the left side, draw a long, thin, rectangular shape for the first leg. The shape of the leg should bend a bit at the middle. The cuff at the bottom should be curved.
Step 16: Below Frankenstein's monster's pant leg, draw the blocky tip of the boot. The back of the shoe should be thinner as he steps forward. Add a line at the bottom for the sole.
Step 17: Draw another thin, long shape on the right side for Frankenstein's monster's other leg. This leg should be a bit shorter than the one on the left. Notice how it bends in the middle too.
Step 18: At the bottom, draw a curved line for the tip of the monster's boot. Below that, add an angled line for the shape of the boot stepping forward. Add the sole of the shoe as a curved line inside the shape. Add a line through the middle of the sole for the heel. Add a line near the tip to make the sole thicker. Notice how the curved tip of the boot overlaps the pant's cuff. This emphasizes the step forward.
Step 19: Using a pen or marker, carefully go over the lines to make your Frankenstein's monster drawing permanent. After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your Frankenstein's monster drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use dark green for the skin. Color the coat purple and the pants gray. Color the shirt brown and the shoes and hair black. Leave a small section on the shoes and hair blank for shine. Use gray for the bolts, stitches and soles of the boots. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
