How to Draw Carnage (Spider-Man)
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Carnage from Marvel's Spider-Man. A new drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: When learning how to draw Spider-Man's Carnage, start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start with a big circle (almost an oval) near the top of the page. This will be the basic shape for Carnage’s head. Leave enough room under it so you can draw the lower part of the head.
Step 2: Next, a draw line in the shape of a letter V below the circle for the lower part of Carnage's head (the jaw and chin). Make the bottom part of the V a little rounder.
Step 3: Draw a vertical line that splits theses shapes in half. This will be a construction line that will help you when learning how to draw Carnage's facial features later on.
Step 4: Inside the circle, on the bottom, draw a big M-shaped line. First draw a big V at the bottom of the circle, then add the sides that end where Carnage's jaw meets the circle. The peaks should be pretty much even in length and width and should be on either side of the vertical construction line. This is the basic shape for Carnage's huge, creepy eyes.
Step 5: Under the circle, and inside the jaw/chin shape, draw two curved lines as guides for Carnage's open mouth. The top line should follow the same basic path as the bottom of the main circle, and the bottom line should follow the basic path of the jaw and chin.
Step 6: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have learned how to draw the basic shape of Carnage. Now go in and tighten your drawing. When learning how to draw Carnage from this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 7: Now learn how to draw Carnage's eyes. Use the triangle-like shape on the left side of the head as a guide to draw the eye. Follow the basic path of the shape, but make the lines more jagged and pointy. Don't worry about making them perfect; they're supposed to be a bit disfigured.
Step 8: Draw the eye on the right side the same way. Follow the basic path of the triangle-like shape to draw the jagged line of the eye. Carnage's eyes should be similar, but they don't have to be exactly the same. His face is supposed to be kind of messed up.
Step 9: Use the top mouth line as a guide to draw Carnage's top row of teeth. Under the path of the line, draw a series of curved, triangle-like shapes to create Carnage's razor-sharp teeth. Make the teeth different sizes for a more unsettling look.
Step 10: Draw Carnage's bottom teeth by using the line at the bottom as a guide. Draw more curved, spike-like shapes along the line of the guide to create the row of teeth at the bottom.
Step 11: The alien symbiote that merged with Cletus Kasaday is in constant motion over his body, so draw a few liquid-like protrusions across Carnage's head using a series of curved lines. It doesn't have to look exactly like the step above. Make them different shapes and sizes randomly throughout Carnage's head.
Step 12: Finish Carnage up by drawing his head and jaw. Simply follow the the basic path created by the original circle and jaw and chin line and darken the line.
Step 13: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Spider-Man's Carnage. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 14: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Carnage! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Carnage drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Carnage drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! The space around the eyes and mouth should be black. Add a few streaks of black across Carnage's head for a more disturbing look. The rest of Carnage's head is red. The inside of his mouth is light pink. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Marvel's Carnage, one of Spider-Man's toughest super villains.
