Use the video and step-by-step instructions below to learn how to draw Marvel Comics' Captain America. There are different versions of Captain America, from the comic books to cartoons to movies. This drawing is based on the design used in the comic books. Different pencilers have different styles, too, so feel free to add your own take on Captain America! Intro: Start drawing Marvel's Captain America with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

Step 1: To draw Captain America, start with an oval in the middle of the page. Below the oval, draw two small vertical lines on either side. This will be the basic shape for Captain America's head and neck.

 

Step 2: Inside the oval, draw two intersecting lines, one vertical and one horizontal. Below the horizontal line, draw two smaller horizontal lines. These will be construction lines that will help you place Captain America's features later on.

Step 3: Right on top of the horizontal line and on either side of the vertical line, draw Captain America's eyes, which resemble two small football shapes. At each end of the horizontal construction line, draw two curved lines that look like the letter C for this comic book hero's ears.

 

Step 4: That's it for the initial sketch of Marvel Comics' Captain America. You have the basic Captain America shape, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 5: Using the initial shapes as guides, darken Captain America's eyes all around to represent eyelashes. When drawing the eyes, bend the bottom part of each eye a little to give him a slight squint.

Step 6: Inside each eye, draw a circle to represent Captain America's iris. Inside each iris, draw a crescent moon and shade it in. This will be Captain America's pupil. The bottom part will act as glare.

 

Step 7: Add the holes of Captain America's face mask, which in turn create his eyebrows. Start by drawing what appear to be check marks above his eyes, then continue going around his eye until the line meets again. In between his eyes, draw a small line for a wrinkle.

Step 8: Above the small horizontal line, draw to small curves to represent Captain America's nostrils. On either side of these lines, draw two small vertical lines to represent the sides of his nose.

 

Step 9: Draw the bridge of Captain America's nose as a broken vertical line that extends from in between his nostrils upward. End the line in between his eyes. Draw a couple more lines for extra detail.

Step 10: Using the lowest of the horizontal lines, draw Captain America's mouth. Just thicken the line a bit and add another small line below it for his bottom lip. Draw another curved line above this Marvel comic book hero's mouth for detail.

Step 11: Above Captain America's eyes and in the middle of his forehead, draw a bold letter A. Use the vertical construction line to help you locate the middle.

 

Step 12: On either side of the A on the sides of Captain America's head, draw little wings that are part of his mask. These can be tricky, so use the image above for reference when drawing Captain America's mask.

Step 13: Captain America's mask doesn't cover his mouth or nose, so draw a curved line above his nose and one on each side of his face to create this hole in his mask.

 

Step 14: Now use the bottom part of the oval as a guide and draw in Captain America's lower jaw. It starts below the main horizontal construction line. Create this Marvel Comics hero cheekbones and make the shape a bit more square at the bottom. If you'd like, you can draw a small line on Captain America's chin for a cleft.

Step 15: Captain America's ears are also outside his mask, so use the initial shapes as guides and add detail to give them structure.

Step 16: Use the top part of the oval to draw Captain America's head. Inside his head, draw a few lines to indicate the division between the plane of his forehead and the top of his head.

 

Step 17: Draw Captain America's neck and add a few lines below his jaw to create the muscles that turn the head.

Step 18: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Marvel Comics' Captain America. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

 

Step 19: For a more finished, inked look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Captain America from Marvel Comics! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Captain America drawing.

Final Step: For a completely finished Captain America drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color Captain America's eyes and mask blue and his skin peach. If you don't have peach, improvise! Use yellow-orange, light brown or anything that works. That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Marvel Comics' Captain America.
