How to Draw Cosmo (The Fairly OddParents)
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Cosmo from Nickelodeon's The Fairly OddParents. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start with a big circle near the top half of the page. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide for Cosmo’s head.
Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the circle, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines a bit so that they contour to the shape. These will be construction lines that will help you place Cosmo's facial features later on.
Step 3: Now draw a guide for Cosmo's eyes by drawing two smaller circles right on top of the horizontal construction line, one on either side of the vertical line.
Step 4: Under the head, draw a shape similar to a long rectangle with the top part missing. This will be a guide for Cosmo's body.
Step 5: Draw a line on either side of the body as guides for Cosmo's arms. The line on the left should point up, while the line on the right should point down. Draw a small circle at the end of the line on the right as a guide for his fist.
Step 6: Below the rectangle, draw an arched line similar to an upside-down letter V as a guide for Cosmo's legs.
Step 7: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Cosmo shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 8: Draw Cosmo's nose and mouth as a series of zig-zag and curved lines. Start where the two construction lines meet and draw a line similar to the letter Z for his nose and upper lip. Right below that line draw two arcs that extend to the left side of Cosmo's face to create his open mouth.
Step 9: Draw a series of straight lines in the top of the mouth for Cosmo's teeth. Draw a curved line on the right for the side of his mouth and another curved line at the bottom for his tongue.
Step 10: Darken the circles for Cosmo's eyes and draw a smaller circle inside each for the irises. Inside each iris draw an even smaller circle for the pupils.
Step 11: Above each eye draw a long rectangular shape for Cosmo's eyebrows. Draw the rectangles with a bit of a diagonal orientation for a loony look.
Step 12: On the left side of the head draw a small arc similar to the letter C as a guide for Cosmo's ear. Inside the ear draw a small spiral shape to create the inner ear structure. Use the main circle as a guide to draw the rest of Cosmo's face.
Step 13: Draw Cosmo's hair using a series of long curved lines. The lines go straight up on the left side, then they curve to the right side of the head behind the eyebrows and come to a point. Draw a small jagged point on top of the hair.
Step 14: Draw a small crown on the upper left side of Cosmo's head. The crown is similar to a W shape with straight lines on the sides and on the bottom for the base.
Step 15: Draw the hand on the right side by using the initial shapes as guides. Thicken up the arm and draw a couple of small lines at the end for the sleeves. Use the circle as a guide to create Cosmo's fist using a few curved lines for the fingers.
Step 16: Draw a couple of straight lines at the top and bottom of the fist as a the base of Cosmo's wand. Draw a small star at the top end of the wand's base.
Step 17: Draw the hand on the left by using the initial line as a guide. Thicken up the line to create the arm, then draw four curved lines at the end for Cosmo's fingers and thumb.
Step 18: Darken the small rectangle at the bottom to create Cosmo's torso. At the top, draw a small W-shaped line for his collar. Draw two parallel lines below the collar to create the tie.
Step 19: Use the upside-down V shape at the bottom as a guide to draw Cosmo's legs. Simply follow the basic path of the line as you thicken up the legs, then draw a curve at the ends for the feet. Draw a curved line on his left side with a line in the middle for his wing. Cosmo's other wing is on the other side and not visible.
Step 20: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Cosmo from Nickelodeon's The Fairly OddParents. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or continue to the next step to go for a more finished look.
Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Don't ink the wing if you plan on coloring your drawing. Wait for any ink to dry, and then erase your pencil marks. You now have a finished inked drawing of a Cosmo! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Cosmo drawing in its entirety.
Final Step: For a completely finished Cosmo drawing, you have to color it. You can use anything you want: markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color Cosmo's hair and eyes yellow-green. His crown and the star on the wand are yellow. His tie, legs and the base of the wand are black. Re-draw his wing using light blue. His skin is a peach color. If you don’t have peach, improvise and use light orange or light brown. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of a Timmy Turner's fairy godfather, Cosmo Fairywinkle Cosma, from the Fairly OddParents.
