How to Draw Rigby
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Rigby the raccoon from Cartoon Network's Regular Show. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start with a long rectangle in the middle of the page. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide for Rigby's head and body.
Step 2: Next, draw two horizontal lines inside the rectangle that divide the shape into three equal parts. The top square-like shape will be Rigby's head the bottom two will be his body.
Step 3: Draw two intersecting lines across the head shape, one vertical and one horizontal. The vertical line should be close to the right side, while the horizontal line should be near the middle. These will be construction lines that will help you place Rigby's facial features later on.
Step 4: Draw two circles as guides for Rigby's eyes. Draw them sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. The eye on the right should extend outside of the main rectangle shape a little bit.
Step 5: Draw an angled line similar to a triangle outside of the main rectangle shape on the right side. The line starts under the right eye at the end of the horizontal construction line and moves outward to the right, then angles down diagonally toward the bottom of Rigby's head.
Step 6: On either side of Rigby's body, draw two curved lines as guides for the hands. The line on the left should drop down to the side of the body, and the other should point upward.
Step 7: Under the body, draw two short lines as guides for Rigby's feet. On the left side of the body, draw a long curved line as a guide for Rigby's raccoon tail.
Step 8: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Rigby shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 9: Darken the shape of Rigby's eyes. Follow the exterior path of the two circles and draw another line to create Rigby's raccoon eyes. The end result will look like a number 8 on its side. Inside each eye draw, a small dot for his pupils.
Step 10: Use the triangle-like shape on the side of Rigby's head as a guide to draw his muzzle. Follow the path of the line as you darken it but make it curve more at the bottom. On the tip of the shape, draw a small oval for Rigby's nose.
Step 11: Inside the head and below the eyes, draw a curved line similar to a letter U on its side for Rigby's mouth.
Step 12: Inside the U shape, at the top, draw three tiny arcs for Rigby's teeth. Draw a slightly bigger arc at the bottom for his tongue and another arc on the right for the side of his mouth.
Step 13: On top of Rigby's head, draw two small arcs similar to upside-down letter U's for the ears. Draw a few lines within the ear shape for structure.
Step 14: Use the top of the original rectangle shape as a guide to draw Rigby's head. Draw a set of wavy lines on top of the head for Rigby's bushy hair.
Step 15: Draw Rigby's arms by using the initial lines as a guides. Follow the basic path of the lines and make the shapes thicker. Draw a few curved lines at the end of each arm for Rigby's fingers.
Step 16: Use the lines at the bottom to draw Rigby's legs the same way as you drew his arms. Follow the path of the lines and make the legs thicker. Draw the feet and three toes at the end using pointy lines.
Step 17: Use the initial rectangle shape as a guide to draw Rigby's body. Make the sides bulge out a bit more for a curvier look.
Step 18: Use the line on the left side as a guide to draw Rigby's raccoon tail. Follow the basic path of the line and make the shape thicker and round at the top.
Step 19: Draw a series of lines inside the tail for Rigby's striped raccoon look.
Step 20: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of a Rigby the raccoon from Cartoon Network's Regular Show. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look, or continue to the step below to go for a more finished look.
Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for any ink to dry, and then erase your pencil marks. Final Step: For a completely finished Rigby drawing, you have to color it. You can use anything you want: markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color the main part of Rigby's body brown. His chest and stomach are light brown. The stripes on his tail and circles around his eyes are dark brown. The inside of his mouth is dark red, his tongue is pink, and his nose is black. Draw some short light brown lines throughout his body for extra detail. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Rigby the raccoon from Cartoon Network’s Regular Show.
