The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw two small circles for the zombie's eyes. Don't draw the eyes too close together. Inside each eye, draw a dot for the pupils. Draw the pupils on the outer edges of the eyeballs for a more crazed look. Add a curved line under the eyes.
Step 2: Below the eyes, in the middle, draw two small dots for the zombie's nostrils. Below the nostrils, draw a short, horizontal line for the top part of the mouth. Directly under the mouth, draw three small square-like shapes for the rotting teeth.
Step 3: Draw the bottom part of the mouth using a curved, U-shaped line. Along the bottom edge of the zombie's mouth, draw three more small, square-like shapes for more teeth. Inside the mouth, draw the tongue using two, short, curved lines.
Step 4: Above the eye on the left, draw a small, curved line for the brow. Draw a longer, curved, dome-like line above the eyes for the top of the head. On top of the zombie's head, draw a few tiny lines for the last remaining strands of hair. To the right of the eyes, draw the rotting ear using a few short, curved lines.
Step 5: Under the ear, draw a line that angles to the left for the zombie's jaw and chin. Continue drawing this line up toward the eye on the left. Draw a curved line under the eye for the cheekbone. To the left of the ear, draw a small, S-shaped line for the other cheekbone.
Step 6: To the right, draw a short line for the first part of the hand coming toward the viewer. Draw an almost oval shape for the thumb. Inside the thumb, draw a cracked square for the rotting fingernail. Draw the zombie's first finger as a line that curves to the left. Then add a U-shaped line at the top for the tip of the finger. Finish the finger using a curved line to the right. At the tip, draw a cracked, square-like shape for the broken nail.
Step 7: To the right, draw a similar shape for the zombie's next finger. The tip of the finger is folded, so draw a U-shaped line at the top. Draw the nail as a broken square-like shape. Because of the angle of the hand, the next finger over is basically a small oval with the broken nail inside. The last finger is made up of a longer line that curves downward more. Add the nail inside the pinky. Draw a few lines in the middle for the creases on the zombie's palm.
Step 8: Below the fingers, draw two short, curved lines for the bottom of the hand. Then draw a longer curved line for the zombie's arm. At the end, draw a jagged line that then curves to the left for the torn shirt.
Step 9: To the left of the head, draw a long, angled line for the shirt sleeve. Add some tears to the edge of the sleeve. To the left of the sleeve, draw a line that curves to the left and then downward for the arm. Sketch lightly at first to get the line right. Add another line to the right to make the shape of the zombie's arm thicker.
Step 10: At the bottom of the arm, draw a series of thin, long shapes for the zombie's fingers. The shapes of the fingers on the left should slope to the left and the ones on the right to the right. On the right, draw a shorter shape that slopes to the right for the thumb.
Step 11: Below the zombie's head, draw a series of jagged shapes and curved lines for the rocks and the hole. Make the shapes of the rocks different sizes. Add a line on each side for the zombie's torso halfway out of the hole. Draw a few curved lines around the torso to emphasize the dirt around the hole.
Step 12: To the right of the zombie, draw a big, tall arc for the zombie's tombstone. Sketch lightly at first. You can make the tombstone as tall as you want. When you get the shape right, darken the line. Draw a series of short strokes along the bottom for grass. Add an extra line on the left side to make the tombstone thicker.
Step 13: Write the letters RIP across the tombstone. You can write anything else you'd like here. You can make the font thicker too. Don't overlap the shape of the hand or the edges of the tombstone. Add a few jagged lines inside the shape for the cracks on the zombie's tombstone.
Step 14: Draw a broken line to the left of the zombie and below it for the grave's outline. Add a few more short strokes and curved lines for the grass and dirt around the grave.
Step 15: Using a pen or marker, carefully draw over the lines to make your zombie drawing permanent. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your zombie drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Color your zombie any way you'd like. For this look, use yellow for the eyes, teeth and nails, and use green for the skin. Use brown for some dirt on the skin and shirt. Color the shirt orange. Use gray for the tombstone. Don't overlap the zombie's hand as you color the tombstone. Color the dirt around the hole brown or dark brown. Color the grass green. You can also only use brown for a dirt grave. Color the inside of the mouth red and brown and the tongue pink. Don't forget to pause the video to draw your zombie at your own pace.
