To draw this Grim Reaper with a Scythe step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to go at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below. The written step-by-step video tutorial:

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: Draw a small arc near the top part of the paper for the first part of the Grim Reaper's hood. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. Darken the arc only when you get the shape right. Below the arc, draw a big V-shaped line for the lower part of the hood's opening.

Step 2: Draw a long, curved line around the first shape for the exterior edge of the hood. This line should be close to the edge of the first shape. The bottom edge should not connect. Draw a few short, curved lines inside the shape for the folds on the hood's cloth. At the bottom, curve the line outward a bit to indicate where the hood will connect to the Grim Reaper's body.

Step 3: Inside the hood opening, near the top, draw two small triangular shapes for the Grim Reaper's eyes. Curve the inner points of the eyes upward to create a furrowed brow. The outer edges of the eyes should be hidden behind the hood. Shade the insides of the Reaper's eyes and don't overlap the shape of the hood.

Step 4: Below the eyes, in the middle, draw a small shape that's similar to an upside-down triangle for the nose. Shade the Grim Reaper's nose. Above each eye, draw a small, curved line to make the brows thicker.

Step 5: Below the nose, draw a curved, horizontal line for the first part of the upper jaw. Now draw the ends of the line up toward the eyes and then curve them outward toward the hood. Draw a series of short, vertical lines along the bottom edge for the Grim Reaper's teeth.

Step 6: Below the upper jaw, draw a long, curved, horizontal line for the lower jaw. Don't draw this line too far below the upper jaw, otherwise the lower jaw will be too big. Shade the sides of the lower jaw a bit and draw a series of short, vertical lines along the bottom edge for the Grim Reaper's teeth.

Step 7: Starting on the lower, left side of the hood, draw a long, curved vertical line for the first part of the Grim Reaper's arm. Pay attention to how long this line is. On the right, draw a shorter angled line for the other edge of the arm. Sketch lightly at first. The lines should be farther apart at the bottom because the Reaper's sleeve gets wider.

Step 8: At the end of the angled line on the right, draw a small cylindrical shape for the hand. Draw a sloping line inside the shape along with a series of shorter lines for the Grim Reaper's bony fingers. Curve the lines for the fingers a bit. On the right side, draw a couple of small, curved lines for the thumb.

Step 9: On the top, right, draw another small, cylindrical shape for the Grim Reaper's other hand. Inside the shape, along the bottom edge, draw four small circles for the knuckles. Above that, draw a few short lines for the fingers. Below the knuckles, draw more circles for the rest of the hand. At the top, draw a couple of small circles for the thumb and a line that connects to the hood.

Step 10: Draw two lines that connect the hands to create the first part of the handle of the Grim Reaper's scythe. Above the hand on the right, draw two more sloping lines for the top part of the scythe handle. Below the hand on the left, draw two longer sloping lines for the bottom part of the scythe's handle. Close off the shape of the handle at the bottom. Use a ruler if you're having a hard time drawing the lines.

Step 11: At the top of the handle, draw a long line that curves over the Grim Reaper's head for the first part of the scythe's blade. Above that, draw another long, curved line for the top edge of the blade. The left tip should be pointy. Sketch lightly at first to get the shape right. On the right side, draw a small shape for the top of the handle.

Step 12: Below the hand on the left, draw a U-shaped line for the rest of the Grim Reaper's sleeve. Add some lines for wrinkles.

Step 13: Below the hand on the right, draw a longer U-shaped line for the other sleeve. Inside the sleeve, draw a thinner, U-shaped line for the inside of the sleeve. Add an extra line inside the forearm. Draw a couple of vertical lines inside the Grim Reaper's forearm to split the bones.

Step 14: On either side, draw a long, vertical line for the outer edges of the Grim Reaper's robe. Don't overlap the lines for the handle on the left. The shape of the robe should be wider at the bottom. Connect the sides of the robe at the bottom using a curved, horizontal line.

Step 15: Draw a series of vertical lines inside the Grim Reaper's robe for the folds and wrinkles on the cloth. Curve the lines at the bottom so the robe opens up a bit. Don't overlap the scythe handle or arms as you add these lines.

Step 16: Using a pen or marker, carefully draw over the lines to make your Grim Reaper drawing permanent. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.

Final Step: Color your Grim Reaper drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use dark gray for the robe. Color lightly at first and slowly build up to the level of darkness that you like. Use black for the inside of the hood and sleeves and to create some shadows. Use brown and light brown for the scythe handle. Color the blade gray but leave the bottom edge and a couple of stripes in the middle blank for shine. Use yellow for the skeleton and gray for shadows. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
