To draw Oogie Boogie from the Nightmare Before Christmas step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to go at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below. Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: To draw Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas, first make a circle near the top of the paper as a guide for the head. To draw the circle, first make four small marks to determine its height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a small, circular object like a coin or a button.

Step 2: Inside Oogie Boogie's head, draw two intersecting lines as construction guides to help you place the face later on. Place the vertical line near the middle. Place the horizontal line closer to the top. Curve the lines a bit.

Step 3: Draw a bigger circle below the head for the Oogie Boogie man's body. First make two marks to indicate the circle's height. Then make two more marks to determine the circle's width. These marks will determine the circle's size. Pay attention to its size in relation to the head. Connect the marks using curved lines to complete the shape of the big circle. Remember that if you can't draw the circle like this, just trace the outer edge of a glass or bowl.

Step 4: Draw two lines that connect the two circles to complete the guide for Oogie Boogie's body. Bend the lines a bit at the top to create guides for the shoulders.

Step 5: On the left side, draw a curved line that's similar in shape to the letter S as a guide for the first arm. On the right side, draw a similar line but flip it. This will be the guide for Oogie Boogie's other arm.

Step 6: On the lower, left side, draw a vertical line that bends a bit at the bottom as a guide for the first leg of this Nightmare Before Christmas character. On the right side, draw a similar line as a guide for the other leg. This line should bend to the right at the bottom.

That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.

Step 7: Inside Oogie Boogie's head, draw two small arcs with lines underneath for his eyes. Sketch lightly at first to get the shapes right. Use the initial lines as guides for the eyes' placement. The inner corners of the eyes should be longer than the outer corners. The eye on the left should be smaller. Above each eye draw another arc for Oogie Boogie's thick brows. Keep the brows inside the shape of the initial circle.

Step 8: Below the eyes, draw a long, curved, horizontal line for the top part of the mouth. Pay attention to the distance from the eyes. Sketch lightly and only darken the line when you get the shape right. Draw a series of short lines along the top of the mouth for Oogie Boogie's stitches.

Step 9: Below the top line, make a small mark to indicate how big Oogie Boogie's open mouth will be. Now connect the mark to the top line using curved lines to form the bottom part of the open mouth. Oogie Boogie's mouth varies in size, so you can make yours bigger if you'd like. Draw a line below the mouth for the lower lip. Add a series of smaller lines along the edge for stitches.

Step 10: At the top of the small circle, draw a thin shape that curves to the right for the top of the head. The shape of Oogie Boogie's head is wide at the bottom and narrower toward the tip. The lines for the bottom edge of the head should curve until the tip touches the edge of the initial circle again. Make the tip round and then curve the line back up to meet the top edge of the head.

Step 11: On the left side, draw a line from the eye to the mouth for the left side of Oogie Boogie's head. On the right, draw another curved line for the other side of the head. Follow the basic path of the initial circle as you draw the shape of the head. Draw a few short lines along the lower edge of the circle for the creases on the burlap-like skin.

Step 12: Darken the curved line on the left to start forming the shape of Oogie Boogie's first arm. Make the bottom tip curved and thin. Then draw a line that curves up again for the inner edge of the arm. Draw another line at the top, along the edge of the big initial circle, to complete this Nightmare Before Christmas character's arm.

Step 13: Use the curved line on the right as a guide to draw Oogie Boogie's other arm the same way. First darken the guide to create the outer edge of the folded arm. At the bottom, use a couple of curved lines to create the thin, round tip of the hand. Draw a curved line along the top edge of the initial circle to complete the shape of Oogie Boogie's arm.

Step 14: Darken the sides of the big circle for the body. Add an extra bump at the bottom for the tops of the legs. Draw a long, horizontal line along the bottom edge of the initial circle for the bottom of the body. Draw a line across the torso to emphasize Oogie Boogie's big belly.

Step 15: Draw the shape of Oogie Boogie's first leg and foot around the guide on the lower, left side. The top of the leg should be wide, and the foot should be thin and short.

Step 16: Draw the shape of Oogie Boogie's other leg around the guide line on the right the same way. Make this leg similar to the other one. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the shape right.

Step 17: Go over the final sketch lines of your Oogie Boogie with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing. Fill in the shapes of the eyes and mouth using ink as well.

Final Step: Color your Nightmare Before Christmas character using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use yellow-green for Oogie Boogie's entire body. Color lightly at first and slowly build up to the intensity of green that you like. This is Oogie Boogie's look under black light. You can also color him light brown for his more natural look. Add a bit of dark green for shadows. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
