How to Draw Princess Tiana
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Princess Tiana from Walt Disney's Princess and the Frog. A new drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start with an egg shape that points down in the middle of the page. Under the egg shape draw two vertical lines. These shapes don’t have to be perfect. They’re just basic guides for Tiana’s head and neck.
Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the egg shape, one vertical and one horizontal. When drawing the lines, bend them so they follow the contour of the shape. Draw two smaller lines in between the horizontal construction line and the bottom of the egg. These will be construction lines that will help you place Princess Tiana’s facial features later on.
Step 3: On top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line, draw two shapes that resemble fat footballs for Tiana's eyes. The shape on the right should be smaller because of perspective.
Step 4: Now draw guides for Tiana’s hair. First draw a curved line that wraps around the top part of her head. The line starts on the left end of the horizontal construction line and ends above and to the right of the right eye. On top of that, draw a smaller arc similar to the letter C on its side as a guide for Tiana's bun.
Step 5: On top of Princess Tiana's head, draw a series of angled lines for her tiara/crown. First draw a wide M shape, then right on top of the M, draw a taller angled line similar to an upside-down letter V.
Step 6: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape for Princess Tiana from Walt Disney's Princess and the Frog, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 7: Darken in the shape of Tiana's eyes. Give this Disney cartoon character thick curved eyelashes on the outer, upper corner of each eye. Draw a small curve above each of her eyes to represent eyelids.
Step 8: Inside each eye, draw a circle for Tiana's iris. Inside each iris draw a smaller circle for her pupil and an even smaller circle to represent glare. Shade in the pupil.
Step 9: Draw in a thick, angled curve above each eye to give Tiana her eyebrows. The curves should start out thick near the vertical construction line and come to a point near the sides of her head.
Step 10: On top of the smaller of the horizontal construction lines, draw a series of tiny curved lines for Tiana's nose and nostrils.
Step 11: Use the small construction line below the nose to help you place Princess Tiana's mouth. Her upper lip is similar to a very wide letter M with a line underneath it. Tiana's lower lip is just two wide letter U’s on top of each other. Draw a small line on Tiana's cheek for her dimple.
Step 12: Draw Tiana's ear on the left side of her face where the horizontal line ends. Tiana's ear consists of a shape similar to the letter C with some lines within it for structure.
Step 13: Tighten the shape of Princess Tiana's face by using the egg shape as a guide. Be sure to dip the line in toward her eye a bit to form her cheekbone. Darken the two lines to form Tiana's neck.
Step 14: Tighten the shape of Princess Tiana's tiara/crown by thickening the initial guide lines. Use the image above for further reference.
Step 15: Princess Tiana's hair is a little tricky, so it’s divided into two parts. First draw the front part of Tiana's hair by drawing a line across her forehead that ends in a curl right next to her ear. Below Princess Tiana's ear, draw a couple more squiggly lines to represent the curl on the back of her head.
Step 16: Finish Princess Tiana's hair by using the initial line as a guide to draw the top of her hair and add a curl on the right side. Use the top arc as a guide to tighten the shape of Tiana's bun. Make sure to dip inward a bit on the left side.
Step 17: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Princess Tiana from Walt Disney's Princess and the Frog. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 18: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Princess Tiana! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Tiana drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Princess Tiana drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color her hair and eyebrows black. Her skin and eyes are a light brown. Her tiara/crown is light blue, and her lips are red. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Princess Tiana from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog.
