Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Dipper Pines from Disney Channel's Gravity Falls. A new drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a circle near the top half of the page. It doesn't have to be perfect. It's just a guide for Dipper Pines' head.
Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the circle, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so that they contour to the shape. These will be construction lines that will help you place Dipper Pines' facial features later on.
Step 3: Draw two small circles sitting on top of the horizontal construction line as guides for Dipper Pines' eyes. The circles should be on either side of the vertical construction line.
Step 4: Below Dipper Pines' eyes, where the two construction lines intersect, draw a tiny oval as a guide for his nose. On the left side of the head, where the horizontal construction line starts, draw a C-shaped line as a guide fore Dipper Pines' ear.
Step 5: Draw a big arc on top of Dipper Pines' head as a guide for the top of his cap. The arc starts on top of the ear and ends on the top right side of the head. Then draw a smaller, thinner arc to the right of that to create a guide for the bill portion of Dipper Pines' cap.
Step 6: Under Dipper Pines' head, draw a rectangle as a guide for his torso. The height of the rectangle should be about the same as the height of the head.
Step 7: Draw two lines with small circles at the ends as guides for Dipper Pines' arms. The line on the left curves down toward the bottom of his torso. The line on the right should bend up toward his head.
Step 8: Under Dipper Pines' body draw two curved lines as guides for his legs. At the end of each line, draw a long oval as guides for his feet.
Step 9: That's it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Dipper Pines shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 10: Tighten the shape of Dipper Pines' nose by darkening the right side of the oval. Under the nose draw a shape similar to a sausage for the mouth. Inside the mouth draw two lines to create Dipper Pines' teeth.
Step 11: Darken the edges of Dipper Pines' eyes. Draw two small dots inside each eye for his pupils. Draw a line over the right eye for his eyebrow. Don't draw the other eyebrow, as it will be blocked with the bill of his cap. Draw a line under the left eye for extra detail.
Step 12: Draw the first part of Dipper Pines' cap by darkening the top part. Make it curvier on top. Draw the bottom part of the cap that extends and connects to the bill. The bottom portion of the bill ends next to the right eye.
Step 13: Draw a small oval at the top of Dipper Pines' cap. Draw a curved vertical line inside the cap that continues to the below and to the right to form the extra flap of the bill. Inside the cap on the right side, draw a small pine tree shape.
Step 14: Draw the arm on the left side by using the initial line as a guide. Follow the path of the line as you make Dipper Pines' arm thicker. Draw a few curved lines at the end of the circle for his fingers. Draw a line near the top for his shirtsleeve.
Step 15: Use the rectangle as a guide to draw Dipper Pines' vest. The vest consists of two curved, rectangle-like shapes on either side of his torso. The shape on the left goes around the left arm. The shape on the right is thinner and smaller.
Step 16: Use the original circle shape as a guide to draw Dipper Pines' face. Darken the C-shaped line on the left side of his face for his ear.
Step 17: Draw Dipper Pines' hair under his cap using a series of curved lines. Draw a couple of arcs directly under his bill, a couple to the right of his ear and three big ones to the left of his ear for the back of his hair.
Step 18: Draw the arm on the right side by using the initial line as a guide. Follow the path of the line as you make Dipper Pines' arm thicker. Draw a few curved lines at the end of the circle for his fingers and thumb. Draw a line near the base of his arm for his shirtsleeve.
Step 19: Draw the rest of Dipper Pines' torso between the flaps of his vest. Draw a line a curved line at the top and bottom for the shirt. Right under Dipper Pines' shirt, draw his shorts by using the bottom part of the rectangle as a guide.
Step 20: Use the curved line on the left side as a guide to draw the left leg. Follow the path of the line as you thicken up Dipper Pines' leg. Draw a couple of lines inside the leg for his sock. Use the oval underneath as a guide to draw his shoe. Make the bottom of the oval flatter for the soles of his shoe. Use the image above for further reference.
Step 21: Draw the leg on the right the same way as the leg on the left but make it a bit smaller.
Step 22: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Dipper Pines from Disney Channel's Gravity Falls. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look, or continue to the next step to go for a more finished look.
Step 23: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then erase your pencil marks. You now have a finished inked drawing of Dipper Pines! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Dipper drawing in its entirety.
Final Step: For a completely finished Dipper Pines drawing, you have to color it. You can use anything you want: markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color Dipper's cap blue and his hair brown. His skin is peach, but if you don't have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light brown. His shirt is orange, and his vest is dark blue. His shorts are light gray, and his sneakers are dark gray. That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Dipper Pines from Disney Channel's Gravity Falls.
