How to Draw Roxas (Kingdom Hearts)
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Roxas from Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts video game series. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a shape similar to an oval with a point at the bottom. The shape resembles a balloon with a slight tilt. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a basic guide for Roxas' head.
Step 2: Under the head, draw two small, curved lines as guides for Roxas' neck.
Step 3: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the head, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so they follow the contour of the shape. Draw two smaller lines below the horizontal line. These will be construction lines that will help you place Roxas' facial features later on.
Step 4: Draw two shapes, similar to footballs, as guides for Roxas' eyes. Draw them sitting on top of the horizontal construction line, on either side of the vertical construction line. The shape on the left should be a bit smaller because of perspective.
Step 5: That's it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape for Roxas. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 6: Tighten the shape of Roxas' eyes as you darken them. Draw thick spiky lines on top for Roxas' eyelashes.
Step 1: For the inside of Roxas' eyes, draw a big thick circle for his iris. Draw a smaller circle inside this one for detail and an even smaller one inside this one for his pupil and shade it in. On the top right side of each iris, draw another small circle to represent glare.
Step 8: Draw a line above each eye to represent the eyelids. Above each eyelid draw Roxas' eyebrows. The eyebrows are flat underneath and curved on top. They angle down toward the vertical construction line.
Step 9: Draw Roxas' nose using the construction lines guides. The main part of the nose sits on top of the smallest construction line and is similar to a greater-than sign (>). Draw a tiny line on the left for the nostril.
Step 10: Draw Roxas' mouth under the nose, sitting on top of the lowest of the construction lines. The shape of the mouth is similar to the letter D on its side. Shade in the right corner and draw a small line to indicate the teeth. Under Roxas' mouth, draw another small line for the lower lip.
Step 11: Use the original balloon-like shape as a guide to draw Roxas' face. Have the line dip in toward the eye on the right side to create his cheekbone.
Step 12: Darken the lines to create Roxas' neck and draw an extra one on the right side. On the left side of his head, draw a curved line for the ear. Draw a couple of lines within the ear for extra detail.
Step 13: Roxas' hair is quite tricky, so it's divided into seven separate parts. Take your time as you draw it and be patient. Draw a series of four diagonal spikes across Roxas' forehead above his eyes. Pay attention to the length of the spikes and their placement.
Step 14: On the top right side of Roxas' head, draw more spikes, except this time they kind of curve to the left to form a kind of cowlick. Use the top right side of the original balloon shape as a guide to get the placement right.
Step 15: Draw more curved spikes to the left. These spikes curve up more and continue the "movement" of Roxas' cowlick before. Notice how some these spikes stick out of the balloon shape a bit.
Step 16: Draw the four main spikes on top of Roxas' head. The two spikes on the left split in the middle for extra detail. Pay attention to the length and width of these spikes in relation to the other spikes, otherwise your Roxas drawing will look a bit weird. Use light strokes first to get the shapes right, then darken your lines.
Step 17: Draw a few more of Roxas' hair spikes to the left. These spikes are a bit shorter than the ones in the previous step, but they still have a curve. Notice that the base or bottom of the spikes follow the path of the original balloon shape.
Step 18: Draw three more spikes with a horizontal orientation underneath. Then draw four more with a vertical orientation over Roxas' ear. These four spikes are similar to two letter W's.
Step 19: Finally draw a few more spikes on the lower left side and right side of Roxas' head. These last spikes don't curve. They have pretty straight sides.
Step 20: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Roxas from the video game Kingdom Hearts. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next step.
Step 21: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Roxas! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Roxas drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Roxas drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! He is blond, so color his hair and eyebrows yellow. His eyes are blue, and his skin is peach. If you don't have peach, improvise and use orange or light brown. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Roxas, Sora's Nobody from the Kingdom Hearts video game series.
