Intro: Start drawing Pocahontas with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

Step 1: To draw Pocahontas, start with an oval shape that is pointy at the bottom in the middle of the page. This is the basic shape for Pocahontas' head. Draw two curved lines at the bottom of that shape that come out away from the middle. These will be the basic shapes for Pocahontas' neck and shoulders.

 

Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the oval, one vertical and one horizontal. Draw the vertical line in the middle, and draw the horizontal line closer to the top of the oval. Draw two smaller lines equal in distance between the horizontal construction line and the bottom of the oval. These will be construction lines that will help you place Pocahontas' facial features later on.

 

Step 3: Draw two small football shapes that are slightly angled sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. These will be the eyes of this Walt Disney character.

 

Step 4: Now draw Pocahontas' necklace by drawing two big curves that look like the letter U that go around her neck.

 

Step 5: Now draw guides for Pocahontas' hair. Starting at the top of the oval shape, draw a long curved line that bends to the left and drops down to end at Pocahontas' shoulder. Draw another line on the lower right side of her face that ends at the right shoulder.

Step 6: That's it for the initial sketch of Pocahontas, the Walt Disney cartoon character! You have the basic shape for Pocahontas, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

 

Step 7: Darken in the shape of Pocahontas' eyes and draw thick eyelashes. Also draw a small curve above each of Pocahontas' eyes to represent eyelids.

 

Step 8: Finish drawing Pocahontas' eyes by drawing a series of three circles, one inside the other, which will represent her iris, pupil and glare.

 

Step 9: Draw in an angled curve above each of Pocahontas' eyes to give her eyebrows. The curves should start out thick near the vertical construction line and come to a point near the sides of her head. Draw Pocahontas' nose as two tiny curves that make the shape of a V above the top small horizontal construction line.

 

Step 10: To draw Pocahontas' lips, draw a series of curves on top of the small bottom horizontal construction line. Her upper lip is a wide letter U with a line underneath it. Draw Pocahontas' lower lip as two wide letter Us on top of each other.

Step 11: Now draw her Pocahontas' face, keeping in mind that her hairline has many curves. Use the main oval as a guide and draw Pocahontas a square jaw, high cheekbones and a curved hairline that is lower than the top part of the main oval. Keep a small section on the left side open where you will draw Pocahontas' ear later on.

 

Step 12: Draw in Pocahontas' ears as two curves similar to the letter C but pointier at the bottom. Draw a couple of lines within her ear shape to represent the inside of her ears.

 

Step 13: Darken in the shape of Pocahontas' neck. Tighten the shape of her necklace, making it more square and angled instead of round. Draw a few lines inside of Pocahontas' necklace for detail. When drawing the jewel, remember that it is shaped like two upside-down drops of water inside each other. Darken in Pocahontas' shoulders as well.

 

Step 14: This section about how to draw Pocahontas' hair is divided into two steps. First draw the left side as a series of lines that follow the shape of the guide that you drew earlier. Start at the top and draw the lines down to end at the top of Pocahontas' shoulder.

 

Step 15: Now draw the other side of Pocahontas' hair by using the original oval to give her head more shape and draw a few lines inside within it. Draw a few lines below Pocahontas' ear on this side that end at her shoulder as well.

Step 16: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Walt Disney's Pocahontas. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

 

Step 17: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Pocahontas, the Walt Disney cartoon character! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Pocahontas drawing.

 

Final Step: For a completely finished Pocahontas drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color Pocahontas' hair black, her eyebrows and eyes dark brown. Her lips are dark red, and her skin is light brown. Pocahontas' necklace is blue, and the details within it are light blue. That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Walt Disney's Pocahontas.
