The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a small circle near the top of the page as a guide for Jasmine's head. First draw four tiny marks for the height and width of the circle, then connect the marks using curved lines. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake. But the circle doesn't have to be perfect. It's just a guide. If you do want a perfect circle, trace the outer rim of a coin, bottle cap or anything else that's circular.
Step 2: Draw a small, curved V-shaped line under the head as a guide for the jaw and chin. Don't draw this line too low, otherwise your Jasmine will end up with a big chin.
Step 3: Draw two intersecting lines inside the head, one horizontal and one vertical. These are construction lines that will help you place Jasmine's facial features later.
Step 4: Draw a triangle under head as a guide for the torso by first drawing a horizontal line under the head. Then draw two diagonal lines that are similar to a big letter V to complete the triangle. Draw two short lines between the head and the torso to form Jasmine's neck.
Step 5: Draw a triangle-like shape underneath to complete the guide for Jasmine's torso. First draw a horizontal line at the bottom, then two diagonal lines that connect to the shape above.
Step 6: On the top, left side of the torso, draw a line similar to the less-than sign (<) as a guide for the first arm. On the end of the line, draw a small circle as a guide for Jasmine's hand. On the right side of the torso, draw a long, vertical line as a guide for the other arm. Draw a circle on the end of this line too as the guide for the other hand. Draw a small U- shaped line under the circle as a guide for the fingers.
Step 7: Draw a long, vertical line under the torso as a guide for the first leg. The line should bend slightly to the right. The bottom should angle to the left to create the guide for the foot. Draw another long, vertical line on the right as a guide for Jasmine's other leg. This line should angle a bit near the middle. Angle the line at the bottom to create the guide for the foot. Pay attention to the length of these lines in relation to the body.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more finished drawing.
Step 8: Lightly sketch the shapes of Jasmine's eyes on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. The shape of the eyes should be similar to ovals with the ends slightly pointed. When you get the shapes of the eyes right, darken the lines. Use the construction lines as guides for placement. Pay attention to how far apart from each other they are. Also pay attention to the size of the eyes in relation to the rest of the head. Don't draw them too small.
Add a darker, thicker line at the top of the shape for Jasmine's eyelashes. The line should extend to the right and almost touch the edge of the initial circle. Draw the thick line over the eye on the right to create the other set of eyelashes. Make the rest of the eye's edges thicker and darker too. The two eyes don't have to be exactly the same, but try to make them similar to each other.
Step 9: Inside each eye, draw a very small circle for the irises. Place the circles in the center of the eyes. The tops of the irises should be behind the eyelashes. Inside each iris, in the middle, draw a big dot for the pupils. Draw a curved line over each eye for the eyelids. Don't draw the line too high, otherwise Jasmine will appear to be sleepy.
Step 10: Draw a long, curvy line on the left side of the vertical construction line for Jasmine's nose. The line should stretch all the way to the lower edge of the initial circle. Add a tiny line on either side for the nostrils.
Step 11: Draw Jasmine's top lip using a couple of lines right below the lower edge of the initial circle. The top lip consists of a line with two peaks and a flat horizontal line under it. The lines come to a point on the sides.
Step 12: Now draw Jasmine's bottom lip using a couple more lines. The first line should be small and similar to the letter U but wider. The second line shoud be similar to the first line but longer and wider.
Step 13: Draw the front part of Jasmine's hair using two lines above the eyes. The lines should have a diagonal orientation and should come to a point near the initial vertical line at the top. The sides of the lines should extend to the outside of the main head shape just a little bit.
Step 14: Draw the eyebrows above the eyes using a couple of curved lines. A big section of each eyebrow will be hidden behind the hair, so only draw the visible portions. Jasmine has big, thick eyebrows, so don't draw the shapes too thin.
Step 15: Use the initial lines and shapes as guides to draw Jasmine's face. Simply follow the path of the initial guides and darken the lines.
Step 16: Draw Jasmine's earrings on the sides of the face using a couple of curved lines. The earrings are triangular, but because they're behind the face, only use a curved line to draw them.
Step 17: Draw a small circle above the head for the jewel that's on Jasmine's headband. Add a curved line under the circle for the jewel's base. The line should follow the basic path of the circle.
Step 18: Draw a rectangle-like shape on either side of the jewel to create Jasmine's headband. The shapes should be pretty similar on either side. Pay attention to the length.
Step 19: Now add the rest of Jasmine's hair by first drawing a curved line above the headband. Draw a long curved line on the left that stretches down to the torso for the side of the hair. Add another long, curved line on the right side for the other section of hair.
Step 20: Darken the small lines under the head to create the shape of the neck. Draw a couple of curved lines under the neck to create the shape of the necklace. Jasmine's necklace should be similar to the letter V but with a rounder bottom.
Step 21: Lightly sketch the top part of Jasmine's shirt inside the initial triangle shape, below the necklace. The line for the top part of the shirt should be similar to a wide letter M. When you get the placement and shape right, darken the line.
Draw a curved horizontal line at the bottom for the lower edge of the shirt. Draw the sides of Jasmine's torso by following the basic path of the initial triangle and darkening the lines. Make the sides rounder and some curved lines within the shape to create the chest.
Step 22: Draw the shirt's sleeves using a series of curved lines on the sides of the torso. The curved lines should extend farther than the guide for the arm because the sleeves will wrap around Jasmine's arm. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the shape and position right. Draw the sleeve on the other side the same way but make this shape smaller.
Step 23: Use the angled line on the left side of the body as a guide to draw the first arm. Don't overlap the shape of the sleeve as you draw the lines for Jasmine's arm. Make the shape of the arm thicker as you follow the basic path of the initial guide line.
Make the shape thick at the top and thinner near the bottom to create the wrist. Follow the basic path of the initial small circle to create the shape of the fist. Draw a couple of small, curved lines on the right side of the fist to indicate Jasmine's folded thumb and index finger.
Step 24: Draw Jasmine's arm on the other side using the initial long vertical line as a guide. Follow the basic path of the guide as you make the shape of the arm thicker. Make the section near the middle thicker to create the forearm and the bottom thinner to create the wrist.
Remember to sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the shapes right. Draw a long, thin arc with a diagonal orientation on the left side of the inital small circle for the thumb. Follow the path of the initial arc and draw a series of short, vertical lines to create Jasmine's fingers.
Step 25: Darken the sides of the initial guides to create the shape of Jasmine's midsection. Draw two curved lines similar in shape to the letter V for the top edge of the pants.
Step 26: Draw a tiny line in the middle of the torso for Jasmine's belly button. Add another V- shaped line under the midsection to complete the top edge of the pants. Draw a long, curved line on the left side of the torso for the visible portion of the long hair.
Step 27: Use the long vertical line on the right as a guide to draw the first leg. Jasmine wears very puffy pants, so draw the shape of the pant leg wide as you follow the basic path of the guide. The pants are so wide that they will overlap the guide line on the left a little bit. Now draw a long curved line for the bottom part of the pants. This line should be similar to a wide letter U. It should almost cover the lower tip of the guide.
Step 28: Draw Jasmine's other pant leg by using the line on the left as a guide. The other pant leg basically consists of a long wavy line on the left side. Curve the bottom part of the pant leg to make it wide and puffy.
Step 29: Use the tips of the initial vertical lines as guides to draw Jasmine's small feet. Use a couple of short, curved lines to create the curled, pointy tips of the shoes. Draw the shoe on the other side the same way. Don't forget the pointy tip!
Step 30: For a more finished look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker.
Step 31: After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.
Final Step: Color your Jasmine drawing using color pencils, markers or even crayons! Start by coloring the hair and eyebrows black. Then color the headband and the rest of her outfit light blue. Color the jewel dark blue on top and regular blue on the bottom. Leave a tiny circle blank to represent shine.
The base of the jewel, the earrings, the necklace and the shoes are light brown with a bit of yellow. Add a base of light brown to the skin to give Jasmine a tan complexion. Add peach over the light brown. If you don't have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or pink. Add some purple to the eyelids and red to the lips.
