How to Draw Mickey Mouse

Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Disney's Mickey Mouse. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

Intro: Start drawing Disney's Mickey Mouse with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 1

Step 1: To draw Mickey Mouse, start with a circle on the page that will be Mickey Mouse's head. Draw the circle slightly below and to the left of the center of the page, and don't make it too big because you need room for Mickey Mouse's big round ears.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 2

Step 2: Next draw two intersecting lines across the circle. When drawing the lines, bend them so that they follow the contour shape of a sphere. Draw the vertical line quite close to the left edge of the circle, and draw the horizontal one in the middle. These are construction lines that will help you place Mickey Mouse's features later on.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 3

Step 3: Starting where the construction lines intersect, draw a small circle that extends to the outside of the main circle. Draw the center of this circle slightly below the horizontal construction line. This will be Mickey Mouse's snout.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 4

Step 4: On top of Mickey's snout, draw an oval that is roughly the same height as the snout and that slightly grazes the main circle on the right side. This will be Mickey Mouse's nose.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 5

Step 5: Where the horizontal construction line ends on the right outer edge of the main circle, draw a smaller circle to make an ear. Higher up the on Mickey Mouse's head, draw another circle of the same size. It's important to get the right size for his ears, otherwise Mickey won't look right. To get the correct ratio, think of his head as a quarter and his ears as two dimes.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 6

Step 6: Close to the top of the vertical construction line, draw a long arc line that touches the top part of the main circle and comes down to the horizontal construction line. Starting where you left off on this arc, draw another arc that ends near the bottom right side of the main circle. This will be Mickey Mouse's "mask."

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 7

Step 7: Starting on the left side of the snout circle, draw a wide U-shaped arc that extends to the middle of the head circle and below the horizontal line. Draw another arc below this one that sits below the main circle. This is the basic shape of this Disney cartoon character's mouth.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 8

Step 8: Draw the inside of Mickey Mouse's mouth by drawing another U-shaped arc that grazes the bottom of the main circle and up to the top line. Inside this shape, draw two arcs to indicate Mickey Mouse's tongue.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 9

Step 9: On the left side of the vertical construction line and just above the snout circle, draw a small oval, which will be the left eye. Next to that oval, on the right side of the vertical line, draw a slightly bigger oval. This will be the right eye. Inside each of Mickey Mouse's eyes, draw two smaller ovals, which will be his pupils.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 10

Step 10: That's it for the initial sketch of Mickey Mouse, the Disney cartoon character! You have a basic Mickey Mouse shape, so now you will go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 11

Step 11: Start by darkening in Mickey Mouse's nose, snout and mouth, and making your lines more smooth and curved. Draw a small curve on the end of Mickey Mouse's smile to indicate his laugh line.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 12

Step 12: Now darken Mickey Mouse's eyes, mask and ears, being careful to keep all the circular shapes fluid and round. Also, raise the line that connects his lower ear to his lip. This will give his head much better definition, and he won't look so round. Remember to not draw the full circle of Mickey Mouse's ears here. Leave the space open where Mickey's ears and head connect.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 13

Step 13: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Disney's Mickey Mouse. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

Draw Mickey Mouse Step 14

Step 14: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Mickey Mouse! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Mickey Mouse drawing.

Draw Mickey Mouse Last Step

Final Step: For a completely finished Mickey Mouse drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Mickey is an easy character to color. Color his nose, pupils, mask, ears and the inside of his mouth black. Color his tongue red and his face peach. If you don't have peach, improvise! Use orange but press very lightly or use light pink. Use any color that looks good; just experiment. And that's it! You now have a complete drawing of Disney's Mickey Mouse.
