Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

Step 1: Start by drawing a circle near the top of the page. This will be the basic shape for the top of Green Lantern's head. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide.

 

Step 2: Draw an angled line under the circle as a guide for Green Lantern's jaw and chin. The line should have three angles: one on the top right for the jaw and two at the bottom for the chin. Together these shapes form the guide for Green Lantern's head.

 

Step 3: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the entire head, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so that they contour to the shape. These will be construction lines that will help you place Green Lantern's facial features later on.

 

Step 4: Sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line, draw two small shapes similar to half-circles as guides for Green Lantern's eyes. The oval on the left should be a bit smaller because of perspective.

 

Step 5: On the right side of the head, draw a curved line as a guide for Green Lantern's ear. The top of the ear should be placed near the end of the horizontal construction line.

Step 6: Under the shape of the head, draw a few lines as guides for Green Lantern's neck. The lines on the left should be short and close to the chin, and the line on the right should be longer and below the ear.

 

Step 7: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Green Lantern from Justice League Unlimited. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

 

Step 8: Darken the shapes of Green Lantern's eyes and make them a bit narrower. Inside each eye, draw a small circle for the pupils.

 

Step 9: Draw two thick angled shapes above Green Lantern's eyes for his eyebrows. The shapes should angle down in between the eyes.

 

Step 10: Add Green Lantern's nose in the section between the horizontal construction line and the bottom edge of the circle. The nose basically consists of a long curved line on the left side for the bridge of the nose and two tiny curved lines at the bottom for the nostrils.

Step 11: Draw Green Lantern's lips under the nose below of the bottom edge of the main circle. The mouth is composed of three wavy lines stacked up on top of each other.

 

Step 12: Add Green Lantern's mustache on top of the mouth as a wavy M-shaped line.

 

Step 13: Draw a series of lines under Green Lantern's mouth for the goatee. Follow the basic path of the guide at the bottom and add an angled line at the top under the mouth.

 

Step 14: Give Green Lantern some wrinkles by drawing a few lines throughout the face. The lines give the character more personality.

 

Step 15: Draw the ear on the right side by using the initial line as a guide. Make the line more angular and draw some lines within the shape for the inner structure of Green Lantern's ear.

Step 16: Use the initial shapes as guides to draw the rest of Green Lantern's head. Follow the basic path of the guides as you darken the line. The line on the left side of the face near the eye should bulge out more for Green Lantern's brow and cheekbone.

 

Step 17: Darken the lines under the head for Green Lantern's neck. Draw a couple of lines in the middle for the neck muscles and a line near the jaw for the top of his costume.

 

Step 18: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Green Lantern from Justice League Unlimited. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

 

Step 19: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Green Lantern! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Green Lantern drawing.

 

Final Step: For a completely finished Green Lantern drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color his skin brown and his eyebrows and goatee black. His eyes are yellow-green, and his costume is dark green. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Green Lantern from the Justice League Unlimited animated series.
