How to Draw Robin (Teen Titans)
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Robin from DC Comics' Teen Titans. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a big circle in the middle of the page. This will be the basic shape for Robin's head. The circle doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide.
Step 2: Draw two angled lines below the head as guides for Robin's neck.
Step 3: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the head, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines so that they contour to the shape. These will be construction lines that will help you place Robin's facial features later on.
Step 4: Draw the guides for Robin's eyes as two triangles sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line.
Step 5: Under the section where the two construction lines meet, draw a small angled line similar to a less-than sign (<) as a guide for Robin's nose. On the right side of the head where the horizontal construction line ends, draw a curved line similar to a backward letter C as a guide for Robin's ear.
Step 6: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Robin shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 7: Tighten the shape of Robin's eyes as you make the lines darker. Make the sides bulge out so they're not so rigid and straight. Follow the basic outline of the eyes and draw a line that goes all around them to create Robin's mask.
Step 8: Draw Robin's nose by using the initial line as a guide. Darken the line and draw an extra curved line between the eyes for a furrowed brow. Draw a tiny line on the right side for Robin's nostril.
Step 9: Below Robin's nose draw a long line for his mouth. Use the C-shaped line on the right side as a guide to draw the ear. Draw a couple of lines within the shape to create the inner ear structure.
Step 10: Use the original circle as a guide to draw the rest of Robin's face. Dip the line to a point at the bottom to create his chin.
Step 11: Drawing Robin's hair is a bit tricky, so it's divided into two parts. Draw the front part of his hair first. It basically consists of a line that begins on the left side of his head on the top tip of the mask that moves to the right across his forehead in a zig-zag pattern and ends where the ear begins.
Step 12: The top of Robin's hair is similar, but the zig-zag spikes are taller. Start the line on the left side of his face below the left eye, then move up and draw a small spike followed by three big spikes and a smaller spike on the right that ends above Robin's ear.
Step 13: Darken the initial guide lines to create Robin's neck. Draw a curved line inside the neck shape to indicate the collar of his costume.
Step 14: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Robin from Teen Titans. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 15: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Robin! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Robin drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Robin drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color Robin's hair, mask and costume collar black. Add a gray zig-zag line across his hair to give it sheen. Add a few gray spots on the bottom part of the mask and on his neck to represent shine. Robin's skin is a peach color, but if you don’t have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light brown. Experiment! That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of the Robin from Teen Titans.
