The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a circle near the top of the paper as a guide for Robin's head. First make four marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, just trace the outer rim of a circular object like a coin or a lid.
Step 2: Draw a curved vertical line across the circle as a guide to help you place Robin's facial features later. Close to the bottom, draw a curved horizontal construction line for another guide line.
Step 3: Below the head, draw a triangle as a guide for the top part of Robin's body. Pay attention to the size of the triangle in relation to this Teen Titans Go! character's body. Leave a small space between the shapes.
Step 4: Draw two short lines in the space between the head and the body as a guide for Robin's neck. Under the triangle, draw a small, square-like shape using three short lines as a guide for the bottom half of the body.
Step 5: On the right corner of the body triangle, draw an angled line as a guide for the first arm. On the bottom end of the line, draw a small circle as a guide for Robin's hand. It's okay to overlap the other shapes.
Step 6: On the left side of the body, draw another angled line as a guide for the other arm. At the bottom, draw the guide for Robin's hand as a small half-circle. Don't overlap the body shapes this time.
Step 7: Under the body, on the right side, draw a long, vertical line that slopes slightly to the right as a guide for the first leg. At the bottom, draw a small arc with a line below it (similar to a half-circle) as a guide for Robin's foot.
Step 8: To the left, draw a straight, long, vertical line as a guide for Robin's other leg. At the bottom, draw a small arc with a line under it as a guide for the other foot.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing of this Teen Titans Go! character.
Step 9: Inside the head, use the lines as guides to draw the eyes as two small half-circles. The tops of Robin's eyes are made up of lines that slope down toward the middle. The bottoms are curved lines. Sketch lightly at first. When you get the shapes right, darken the lines. The eye on the left should be smaller. The eyes should be sitting on top of the horizontal line and on either side of the vertical line.
Step 10: Between the eyes, near the left one, draw a tiny, V-shaped line for the nose. Below the nose, draw a short, curved line for Robin's mouth. Use the initial lines as guides for placement.
Step 11: Draw a line around both eyes for the mask. Don't overlap the nose. Keep the lines close to the shapes of the eyes to make the mask thin. If you draw this line too far away from the shapes of Robin's eyes, the mask will be too thick and wide.
Step 12: On the left side of the head, draw a curved line similar to a backward letter C for Robin's ear. Draw an angled line along the inner edge of the initial circle for the hairline. At the top, dip the line down along the vertical guide for the front part of the hairline. On the front, draw a small, W-shaped line for the widow's peak on this Teen Titans Go! character.
Step 13: Use the bottom half of the initial circle as a guide to draw the rest of Robin's head. Follow the path of the circle but make the lower, right side flatter than the initial shape for the jaw. On the lower, left side, curve the line farther away from the circle to make Robin's head slightly bigger. The bottom of the head should be pointy for the chin.
Step 14: Draw a series of tall, angled lines along the top edge of the initial circle for the hair. The first clump of hair above the ear should be thin and pointy. The clump above that should be bigger, thicker and more triangular, like a shark fin. The third clump of Robin's hair should also be big and wide. Sketch lightly at first so you get the shapes right. The final clump at the top should be very thin and pointy. The line should end on the left side of the face.
Step 15: Darken the short lines under the head for the neck. Below the neck, inside the body, draw a triangular line for the top part of Robin's cape.
Step 16: On the right corner of the body guide, draw a small arc for the shirt's sleeve. Tilt the bell-shaped arc a bit. Draw a line at the bottom to finish the shape of the sleeve. Darken the initial guide for the arm. Draw a second line to the left to make the shape of Robin's arm thicker.
Step 17: Before hitting the circle for the hand, draw a square-like shape for the top of Robin's glove. Make the glove narrower near the hand. Use the small circle as a guide to draw the hand. On the right side of the circle, draw a couple of short, curved lines for the folded finger on the fist.
Step 18: Use the initial triangle shape as a guide to draw the torso of this Teen Titans Go! character. Don't darken the top, left corner of the guide. Make that section narrower and rounder. Draw two small, rectangular shapes on the chest for the design of the collar. On the right side of the chest, draw a roundish shape for the emblem. Inside the shape, draw a thick capital letter R to finish the Robin emblem.
Step 19: At the bottom of the torso, between the hands, draw a small circle inside another circle for Robin's belt buckle. On either side of the buckle, draw a couple of small rectangles for the rest of the belt. Don't overlap the hand on the right.
Step 20: Use the angled line and small circle on the left as guides to draw the other arm the same way as the first. Draw a curved line at the top of the line for the sleeve. Don't overlap the chest. Darken the middle section of the guide for the arm. Draw a second line nest to it to make Robin's arm thicker. Draw a blocky shape above the small circle for the top part of the glove. Draw the hand along the edge of the initial circle. Add a small, curved shape at the bottom for the folded finger.
Step 21: Use the long line on the right as a guide to draw the first leg. Follow the path of the guide and draw the shape of the leg around it. The top and bottom of the leg should be wide. The shape should come inward near the middle for the knee. Draw a half-circle inside the arc guide at the bottom for the tip of Robin's boot. Darken the bottom part of the arc for the boot's sole. Add a couple more lines for the heel and the top of the boot.
Step 22: Use the line on the left as a guide to draw the other leg the same way. Follow the path of the guide and draw the shape of the leg around it. Draw the area near the middle of the shape inward for the knee. Make the bottom very wide. Draw a half-circle inside the arc at the bottom for the boot's tip. Darken the rest of the arc for the sole. Draw a line near the back for the heel and a line below the knee for the top of Robin's boot.
Step 23: Draw a series of lines in the space between the arms and legs for the cape behind the body. The shape should be similar to a big rectangle behind Robin's body. Don't overlap the limbs.
Step 24: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.
Final Step: Color your Teen Titans Go! character drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use peach for the skin. Use black for the hair, the mask, the inside of the emblem, the neck, the edge of the cape and the tops of the boots. Use green for Robin's sleeves, gloves, and pants. Use yellow for the collar, the R, the belt and the inside of the cape. Use red for the shirt. Use gray for the boots. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
