Intro: Start drawing Batman with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: To draw Batman, start with a sideways oval, which will be the basic shape for Batman’s head. It doesn’t have to be perfect; it’s just a guide.
Step 2: On the lower left side of the oval, draw a shape that’s similar to a square with the top missing. This will be Batman's jaw/chin.
Step 3: Next draw a curved vertical line from the top of the oval to the bottom of the square and a curved horizontal line across the bottom of the oval. These are construction lines that will help you place this cartoon character's facial features later on.
Step 4: Draw a series of lines below the entire shape as a guide for Batman's thick neck.
Step 5: That's it for the initial sketch of Batman from Batman: The Animated Series! You have the basic cartoon Batman shape, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 6: Draw Batman's eyes sitting on top of the horizontal line on either side of the vertical line. They look like obtuse triangles, and the left one is slightly smaller because of the perspective.
Step 7: Use the square guide to draw in the lower part of Batman's face that is unmasked. Make the top of the square dip low to form a point on the vertical line and form his nose. Also make it angle up slightly at the lower right side to form this cartoon character's jaw.
Step 8: Draw a small curved horizontal line below Batman's nose for his mouth and another curved line but vertical to the right as a smile line (or in this case frown line).
Step 9: Use the left side of the main oval to draw the shape of Batman's head. Start drawing the line where the mask begins on the left, make it dip in toward Batman's eye to form his cheekbone and stop drawing the line on the top right side of his head.
Step 10: This cartoon Batman's ears are basically triangles on top of the main oval. The one on the right dips lower and curves across his head to form the front of his forehead.
Step 11: Darken the lines that create Batman's neck.
Step 12: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Batman from Batman: The Animated Series. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 13: For a more finished, inked look of Batman, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Batman! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Batman drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished cartoon Batman drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color Batman's mask black with the top part blue to symbolize shine. You can also add blue to a small part of the neck for more effect. Batman's skin is a peach color, but if you don’t have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light brown. Experiment! That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Batman from Batman: The Animated Series.
