Intro: Start drawing Patrick Star with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: To draw Patrick Star, start by drawing a circle on the lower half of the page. This will be the basic shape for Patrick Star's body.
Step 2: Next draw horizontal line near the bottom of the circle and a vertical line near the left side of the circle that extends outside of the circle. When drawing these lines, bend them so they follow the contour shape of a sphere. These will be construction lines that will help you place Patrick Star's features later on.
Step 3: Now draw the basic shape of Patrick Star's head, which is a skinny and tall upside-down U-shape that extends to the top of the vertical construction line and sits on top of the main circle.
Step 4: Draw a smaller, similar-looking curve directly to the left of Patrick Star's head. This will be Patrick Star's arm. To cdraw Patrick's other arm, draw a U shape on the right side of the construction circle and tilt it slightly to the left.
Step 5: Below the main circle on the lower left and right side, draw two small U-shaped curves. These will be Patrick Star's legs.
Step 6: Below the body, draw to rectangle-like shapes that surround Patrick Star's legs. This will be the bottom part of his shorts.
Step 7: Draw an oval on top of the main circle just to the right side of the vertical construction line. Draw another oval of similar size to the left of the other oval, and have the two ovals overlap. These will be eyes of this SpongeBob SquarePants cartoon character. In the top middle of the body circle, draw a half-moon shape to create his mouth.
Step 8: That's it for the initial sketch of Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants! You have the basic Patrick Star shape, so now you will go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 9: Start by darkening Patrick Star's eyes. Don't darken in the part of his left eye that overlaps his right. Draw two small ovals inside each eye for his pupils. Draw two squiggles above each eye to indicate his eyebrows.
Step 10: Darken the half-moon shape that made his mouth and draw a line on the open left side to create the other side of his mouth. On the top part of the smile, draw a small curve to indicate the laugh line. Inside of the mouth, draw two curves to represent Patrick Star's tongue.
Step 11: When you tighten Patrick Star's head, make it thinner than the original basic shape. Also bend the top part of it slightly toward the right. Darken in the right arm and draw it slightly thinner at the bottom.
Step 12: Tighten Patrick Star's body by following the horizontal construction line, which, will be the top part of his shorts. When drawing his body, taper it toward the inside of the main circle, thereby making him a bit skinnier. Draw two curves above his on the vertical construction line. This will create Patrick Star's belly button.
Step 13: Darken in Patrick Star's shorts by drawing another curve below the horizontal construction line that follows its form. This is the waistband for his shorts. Darken in the rest of the outline of his shorts except for the part of the circle above the shorts leg on the right side. Draw a couple of flowery shapes to create the pattern on this cartoon character's shorts.
Step 14: Finish tightening Patrick Star's feet and finally his left hand.
Step 15: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 16: For a more finished, inked look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Patrick Star drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Patrick Star drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Patrick Star's body is a dark pink. Color in some red spots scattered throughout his body. Don't do too many of them or he'll start to look sick. The inside of his mouth is a dark brown color, and his tongue is pink. The main color of his shorts is yellow-green, and the pattern on them is purple. That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants.
