Intro: Start drawing Jake from Adventure Time with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

Step 1: To draw Jake, start with an oval near the top of the page to leave room for Jake's feet. You don't have to draw the oval perfectly. It's just a guide for Jake's head and body.

 

Step 2: Next, draw a horizontal line near the top of the oval and a vertical line near the left of the oval. When drawing the lines, bend them to contour to the shape of the oval. These will be construction guides that will help you place Jake's features later on.

 

Step 3: Right on top of where the two construction lines intersect, draw somewhat of a rounded square shape as a guide for Jake's muzzle.

 

Step 4: On top of the muzzle shape and on either "corner," draw a circle for Jake's eyes. Don't draw the bottoms of the circle, as they're hiding behind Jake's muzzle.

 

Step 5: Draw guides for Jake's arms and legs as curved lines. The left hand should curve up while the right goes outward then back in toward his body. Draw them just below the horizontal construction line. Draw Jake's legs as curved lines below his body.

Step 6: That's it for the initial sketch of Jake the dog from Cartoon Network's Adventure Time! You've drawn the basic Jake shape, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

 

Step 7: Start by drawing Jake's nose as a small oval that sits on top of where the two construction lines intersect inside his muzzle. Shade in Jake's nose.

 

Step 8: Use the square-like shape as a guide to draw Jake's muzzle. To draw Jake's muzzle, draw a line that starts under his nose, goes around the shape and ends up under his nose on the other side.

 

Step 9: Draw Jake's mouth as a couple of curved lines. Inside these lines, draw three smaller curved lines on the top side for Jake's teeth and one wider curved line on the bottom for Jake's tongue.

 

Step 10: Darken the shape of Jake's eyes and draw an extra curved line on the right side of each shape and shade it in.

Step 11: Jake's ears are curved lines. The ear on the right side resembles the letter U, while the ear on the left is just a half letter U. Draw the ears on either side of Jake's head at the end of the horizontal construction line.

 

Step 12: Draw Jake's arms by thickening the guide lines. At the end of each arm, draw three small curves for Jake's paws.

 

Step 13: Use the guides below Jake's body to draw the legs in the same way you drew his arms. At the end of each leg, draw a curve for Jake's feet.

 

Step 14: Darken the main oval shape to draw Jake's body. On the lower left side of the body, draw two curved lines that come to a point for his tail.

 

Step 15: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Jake the dog from Cartoon Network's Adventure Time. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next step.

Step 16: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
