Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start with a small circle near the top of the page. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide for the top part Cleo de Nile's head.
Step 2: Draw a curved line similar to the letter V under the circle as a guide for Cleo de Nile's jaw and chin. The sides of the line should angle a bit. These two combined shapes make the guide for the head.
Step 3: Under the head, draw two curved lines as guides for Cleo de Nile's neck and shoulders. Don't make the lines too far apart, otherwise Cleo will end up with wide shoulders.
Step 4: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the entire head, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines a bit so that they contour to the shape of the head. These will be construction lines that will help you place Cleo de Nile's facial features later on.
Step 5: Sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line, draw two small shapes similar to footballs as guides for the eyes. The shape on the left should be a bit smaller because of perspective.
Step 6: On the right side of the head, draw a small curved line similar to a backward letter C as a guide for Cleo de Nile's ear.
Step 7: Now draw a couple of lines as guides for Cleo's hair. First draw a small curved line inside the head on the top part as a guide for the front of the hair or the bangs. Add a very long curved line that's similar to an upside-down letter U above her head for the rest of Cleo de Nile's hair.
Step 8: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Cleo de Nile shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 9: Draw Cleo de Nile's eyes by using the initial football-like shapes as guides. Follow the basic path of the guides but make the lines thicker. Add a few pointy shapes at the top and bottom for the eyelashes.
Step 10: Inside each eye, draw a circle for the irises. Inside each iris, in the middle, draw another circle and shade it in for the pupils. Draw a tiny circle inside each of Cleo de Nile's eyes, off to the side, to represent glare.
Step 11: Above each eye, draw a curved line for the eyebrows. Cleo de Nile's eyebrow on the left should be a bit smaller because of perspective.
Step 12: Use the construction lines as guides to draw the nose. Cleo de Nile's nose consists of a line that starts at the eye on the left, then curves to the left and and then down and ends on top of the horizontal construction line. Add the nostril on the right side too.
Step 13: Now draw the lips under the nose outside of the main circle. The top lip is a thick, wavy shape with the sides coming to a point. The lower lip is just a curved line under the top lip.
Step 14: On the sides of Cleo de Nile's head, draw a series of shapes for the long earrings. The earrings are formed by three triangle-looking shapes stacked on top of each other. These shapes have circles instead of corners. Use the image above for reference.
Step 15: Use the initial shapes as guides to draw Cleo de Nile's head and neck. Darken the lines as you follow the basic path of the guides to create the face, neck and ear.
Step 16: Draw a few curved lines on the bottom part of the neck for the wraps around it. Under that, draw a few lines for the top part of Cleo de Nile's outfit.
Step 17: Cleo de Nile's hair is a bit tricky, so it's divided into four parts. First draw the bangs using the initial lines as guides. The shape is similar to a half-circle and should extend outside of the initial circle shape.
Step 18: Inside the half-circle shape, draw a series of curved lines for the separation of color of Cleo de Nile's hair.
Step 19: Just above Cleo de Nile's bangs, draw a series of small circles connected by a line to represent the headband.
Step 20: Use the long curved line that's shaped like and upside-down U as a guide to draw the outside of Cleo de Nile's hair. Follow the path of the guides but make the line come inward more at the top. Draw a couple more lines closer to the head.
Step 21: Add a series of long lines within the shape of Cleo de Nile's hair for the separation of color. The lines should be fairly close to one another.
Step 22: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Monster High's Cleo de Nile. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look, or continue to the step below to go for a more finished look.
Step 23: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then erase all of the pencil marks. You now have a finished inked drawing of Cleo de Nile! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Cleo drawing in its entirety.
Final Step: For a completely finished Cleo de Nile drawing, you have to color it. You can use anything you want: markers, color pencils or even crayons! For her hair, alternate between black, brown and yellow. Her headband, earrings and neck wraps are light brown. The jewels on the headband, her eyes and her outfit are light blue. Her skin is peach. If you don't have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light brown. Her lips are red, and her eyeshadow is purple. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Cleo de Nile from Monster High.
