How to Draw Pinkie Pie (My Little Pony)
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. A new drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages of learning how to draw Pinkie Pie, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a circle on the top left part of the paper. It doesn’t need to be perfect. It’s just a basic shape for Pinkie Pie’s head. Leave enough room at the bottom for the body.
Step 2: Inside the circle, draw two intersecting lines, one horizontal and one vertical. The vertical line should be close to the left side of the circle, and the horizontal line should be close to the bottom. Bend the lines, as they contour to the shape of the sphere. These are construction lines that will help you place Pinkie Pie’s facial features later on.
Step 3: Draw two ovals sitting on top of the horizontal construction lines as guides for Pinkie Pie’s eyes. Draw the oval on the left side of the vertical construction line smaller because of the perspective.
Step 4: Below Pinkie Pie’s head, draw a bigger oval lying on its side. This will be a guide for Pinkie Pie’s torso. Pay attention to the size of this oval in relation to the first circle. Don't place them too far apart either or she'll end up with a really long neck.
Step 5: Draw two curved lines that extend from below the head down to the top of the torso to create Pinkie Pie’s neck.
Step 6: Now learn how to draw Pinkie Pie’s leg and guides. Draw three curved lines under her torso. The line on the far left should be angled near the middle to show her stepping up. The other two legs should be about as long as Pinkie Pie’s torso and neck combined. On the right side of Pinkie Pie’s torso, draw a long curved line as a guide for her tail.
Step 7: That's it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Pinkie Pie shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. When learning how to draw Pinkie Pie’s from this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 8: Now learn how to draw Pinkie Pie’s facial features. On the lower left side of the circle, under the left eye, draw a small arc for Pinkie Pie’s nose. Use the construction lines as guides to help you with the placement. On the top part of the nose, draw a tiny curved line for Pinkie Pie’s nostril.
Step 9: Under Pinkie Pie’s nose, draw a series of curved lines to create her open mouth. The bottom part of the mouth should graze the edge of the original circle. Draw a tiny line inside the mouth for Pinkie Pie’s tongue.
Step 10: Now learn how to draw Pinkie Pie’s. Darken the initial oval shapes to create the eyes. Draw six eyelashes on each eye, three on top and three at the bottom. Draw a small oval inside each eye near the middle. This oval represents the glare on the eyes.
Step 11: Inside each of Pinkie Pie’s eyes, draw another oval behind the glare and shade it in for the pupil. Leave a tiny circle at the bottom of each pupil unshaded for more glare. Draw another line on the left side of each pupil for Pinkie Pie’s irises.
Step 12: On the top right side of Pinkie Pie’s head, draw a pointy arc for the ear. Draw a line within the shape to give the ear more structure. Follow the path of the main circle and draw a line above the eye on the left and under the mouth for Pinkie Pie’s face.
Step 13: Now learn how to draw Pinkie Pie’s mane. Her mane is a bit tricky to draw, so it's divided into four parts. First draw the front part of the mane with a line that starts at the ear and moves across the head in a series of bumps, and then ends on the left side of the face.
Step 14: Now draw the top part of Pinkie Pie’s mane by continuing the line and adding more bumps to the top. Notice the difference in sizes of the bumps. The line should end close to the top of Pinkie Pie’s ear.
Step 15: Draw the right side of Pinkie Pie’s mane by continuing the line and adding three more bumps on the right side of her neck. This line should end within Pinkie Pie’s torso, and the bumps should get gradually smaller.
Step 16: Finish drawing Pinkie Pie’s mane by continuing the line and drawing it up toward the bottom of her ear as you add three more bumps along the way. Pinkie Pie’s mane basically surrounds her head, and the bumps make the mane puffier.
Step 17: Now learn how to draw Pinkie Pie’s legs. Use the lines on the left side as guides to draw her front legs. Follow the basic path of the lines as you make her legs thicker. Sketch lightly at first and only darken the lines when you get the structure right.
Step 18: Do the same thing to draw Pinkie Pie’s back legs. Follow the path of the line and thicken up the shape of the leg. On the left side of the leg, draw a similar line to indicate the hind leg on the other side.
Step 19: Now learn how to draw Pinkie Pie’s tail. Like her mane, Pinkie Pie’s tail is a bit tricky, so it's divided into two parts. First draw the top part of the tail by following the basic path of the tail guide and drawing a series of bumps to create the puffy shape.
Step 20: Then draw the bottom part of Pinkie Pie’s tail the same way. Follow the path of the guide line and add a couple of bigger bumps to finish her tail.
Step 21: Darken the sides of the initial oval shape to create Pinkie Pie’s body.
Step 22: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 23: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Pinkie Pie! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Pinkie Pie drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Pinkie Pie drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! First you have to draw in Pinkie Pie’s cutie mark on her upper thigh. Draw a yellow oval with a blue wavy line under it for the top balloon. On the left and right sides of this yellow balloon, draw another blue oval with a yellow wavy line under it for her blue balloons. Now color Pinkie Pie’s skin light pink and her mane and tail dark pink. Her eyes are blue. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.
