How to Draw Garnet (Steven Universe)

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a small square near the top of the page as a guide for Garnet's head. Don't make the square too big because her hair will be even bigger. Leave enough room at the bottom for the rest of her body.
Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the head, one vertical and one horizontal. These will be construction lines that will help you place Garnet's facial features later on. The lines should divide the square into four equal shapes.
Step 3: Under the head, draw an oval as a guide for the top part of Garnet's torso. The oval should be bigger than the head. Add two tiny lines on top that connect to the head for the neck.
Step 4: Draw another oval under the first one as a guide for the lower part of Garnet's torso. This oval should be bigger than the first. Draw two small lines to connect the two ovals and complete the guide for the body.
Step 5: Draw a circle on the top left side of the body as a guide for Garnet's shoulder. Under the circle, draw an angled line as a guide for the arm. At the end of the line, on the bottom, draw a pentagon as a guide for the hand resting on the hip. The pentagon shape should be long.
Step 6: Add a big square that surrounds the head as a guide for Garnet's hair. Notice that the bottom left side of the square rests behind the body, and, therefore, the lines don't overlap.
Step 7: Draw another half-circle on the top left side of the body as a guide for Garnet's other shoulder. It's only a half-circle because it's behind the hair. Under it, draw another angled line for the other arm. At the bottom end of the line, draw a rectangle-like shape for the other hand.
Step 8: Under the body, draw two long curved lines as a guide for the top part of Garnet's legs. These lines should be similar to the letter U.
Step 9: Draw a long shape under the curved lines as a guide for the bottom part of Garnet's legs. These shapes are kind of like warped ovals. They're wide and curved at the top, and thin and narrow at the bottom. Use the image above as reference for the shapes.
Step 10: Add another shape under each leg as a guide for Garnet's feet. The foot on the left will be facing forward, so the shape should be similar to a triangle with the top corner missing. The foot on the right will be facing right, so this shape should be wider, and the lower right corner farther to the right too.
Step 11: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Garnet from Steven Universe. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 12: Inside the head, draw a W-like line for Garnet's sunglasses. The bottom corners of the line should just barely go over the horizontal construction line.
Step 13: Under the sunglasses, draw three tiny curved lines as guides for Garnet's nose. The nose should be placed right where the two construction lines intersect.
Step 14: Under the nose, draw three more lines for Garnet's lips. The top and bottom lip consist of a curved line each, while the actual mouth is a line with two curves.
Step 15: Use the initial square shape as a guide to draw Garnet's head. Follow the basic path of the square as you darken the lines. At the bottom, draw two small lines for Garnet's neck.
Step 16: Draw the arm on the left side by using the initial shapes and lines as guides. Darken the shape of the circle at the top for Garnet's big shoulder pad. Follow the path of the angled line and make the shape bigger to create her arm. Draw the hand using the pentagon shape as a guide and add a few curved lines at the tip for the fingers. Add a few more curved lines to create the long glove that goes up to the elbow.
Step 17: Use the big square around the head as a guide to draw Garnet's hair. Follow the path of the guide but make the corners rounder. The sides of the hair should also come in toward the head a little.
Step 18: Now draw the arm on the right by using the initial shapes and lines as guides the same way as with the arm on the left. Darken the circle on top for Garnet's shoulder pad and thicken up the shape of the arm by following the angled line. At the bottom, draw the hand and the fingers by using a series of curved lines.
Step 19: Darken the top oval to create the top part of Garnet's torso. Inside the shape, draw an angled line to create a shape similar to a half-star.
Step 20: Use the initial shapes as guides to draw the leg on the left. Follow the basic path of the shapes as you darken the lines. Make the shape a bit wider near the middle for Garnet's knee and near the bottom for her ankle.
Step 21: Draw Garnet's other leg the same way. Follow the basic path of the initial shapes as you darken the lines. Make the shape bulge out a bit near the middle for the knee.
Step 22: Now darken the lines in the middle to create Garnet's small waist. Add a few lines to the foot on the right for the pattern's design.
Step 23: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Steven Universe's Garnet. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the next step.
Step 24: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Garnet! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Garnet drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Garnet drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Garnet's hair, the right side of her body suit, and her gloves are dark brown or black. Her skin is brown. The shoulder pad on the right and the leg on the left are dark red. The shoulder pad on the left, the edge of the star-like shape on her torso and a small section on the right foot are pink. The sunglasses are light yellow with a light orange stripe on them. The star-like shape on her torso and a small section on the right foot are also light orange. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Garnet from Steven Universe.
