How to Draw Meg

Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Meg from Walt Disney's Hercules. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Step 1: Start with a small circle near the top of the page. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide for the top part Megara's head.

Step 2: Draw a small V-shaped arc under Meg's head as a guide for her jaw and chin. The sides of the arc should curve out a bit. These combined two shapes make the guide for the head.

Step 3: Next, draw two intersecting lines across the entire head, one vertical and one horizontal. Bend the lines a bit so that they contour to the shape of the head. These will be construction lines that will help you place Meg's facial features later on.

Step 4: Draw two small shapes similar to footballs as guides for Meg's eyes. Draw them sitting on top of the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical construction line. The shape on the left should be a bit smaller because of perspective.

Step 5: Under the head, draw two curved lines as guides for Meg's neck and shoulders. Don't make the lines too far apart, otherwise she'll end up with wide shoulders.

Step 6: Draw a couple of long lines on top of the head as guides for Meg's hair. The line on the left starts where the horizontal construction line begins and then curves up to end on top of the head near the vertical construction line. The line on the right starts at the top near the first line and curves down in a wavy manner and ends on top of the shoulder on the right.

Step 7: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic shape of Meg from Walt Disney's Hercules. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 8: Draw Meg's eyes by using the initial football-like shapes as guides. Follow the basic path of the guides but make the shapes pointier at the tops, bottoms and sides as you darken the lines. Draw a thick line across each eye that ends in a point on the sides for Megara's half-closed eyelids.

Step 9: Inside each of Meg's eyes, draw a small half-circle for the irises. Inside each iris, in the middle, draw a tiny dot for the pupils and a tiny circle off to the side to represent glare.

Step 10: Above each eye, draw a line for Meg's eyebrows. The line on the left should be short, while the line on the right should be long and curve up a bit to give her a mischievous look.

Step 11: Use the construction lines as guides to draw Meg's nose. The nose consists of a line that starts at the eyebrow on the left, then curves to the left to form a point and finally curves inward again and ends at the bottom edge of the main circle.

Step 12: Meg's lips are a bit tricky, so they're divided into two steps. First draw the mouth opening as a line under the nose. Notice that the line has kind of a point near the left side and curves up near the right side and touches the bottom edge of the main circle.

Step 13: Now draw the upper lip as a line with two bumps on top and the bottom lip as a long curved line at the bottom.

Step 14: Use the initial shapes as guides to draw Meg's face. Follow the basic path of the guides, but make the line on the left come in toward the eye a bit more as you darken it.

Step 15: Meg's hair is a bit tricky, so it's divided into four parts. First draw the part of the hair closer to the face. Using a couple of curved lines, draw the curl near the middle of the forehead and curved lines on either side of it. Now draw the long, thin clump of hair on the right side  using a few wavy lines that come to a curved point at the bottom.

Step 16: Use the curved line on the top left side as a guide to draw the big part of Meg's hair at the front. Follow the path of the guide, but draw a loose clump of hair at the bottom of the arc using a a couple of wavy lines.

Step 17: Now use the longer line on the right side as a guide to draw the back portion of Meg's hair. Follow the path of the guide but make the line extend farther to the left at the top and make it wavier on the right. Draw a small curved line close to Meg's face near the middle for her ear.

Step 18: Meg has a big thick pony tail. Draw a line that curves up from the ear for the thick pony tail and a couple of parallel curved lines across the shape for the hair band holding it together. Above the shoulder on the left, draw another curved line for the rest of the pony tail peeking from behind.

Step 19: Darken the guides to create the neck and shoulders, and add three small curved lines below each shoulder for the straps on Meg's dress.

Step 20: Below each of Meg's straps, draw a circle for the fasteners holding them up. Inside each circle, draw a spiral similar to the number 6 for extra detail.

Step 21: Finish up Meg's dress by adding a couple of curved lines attached to the fasteners for the top portion of it.

Step 22: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Megara from Walt Disney's Hercules. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look, or continue to the step below to go for a more finished look.

Step 23: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then erase all of the pencil marks. You now have a finished inked drawing of Meg! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Meg drawing in its entirety.

Final Step: For a completely finished Meg drawing, you have to color it. You can use anything you want: markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color her hair red-brown and the head band red. Her eyelids, eyes and dress are purple, and her lips are dark red. The fasteners on the dress are yellow, and her skin is peach. If you don't have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light brown. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Megara from Disney's Hercules.
