How to Draw Elastigirl (Helen Parr) from The Incredibles VIDEO & Pictures

A skilled pilot, Elastigirl is also extremely durable and proficient in hand-to-hand combat. After marrying Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible), and having three children: Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack, Helen hangs up her super suit, permanently assuming her secret identity. Helen only uses her elastic super powers in private ... Until one day when she is called into action again.

To draw Elastigirl (Helen Parr) step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to go at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below. The new lines in each step are shown in red, and each step is explained in the text below the photo, so you'll know exactly what to draw in each step. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods! Take your time and draw at your own pace.
The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw a circle near the top of the paper as a guide for Elastigirl's head. First make four small marks to indicate the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. If you're struggling to draw the circle, trace the outer rim of a coin, a button or any other object with a circular edge.
Step 2: Draw a small, curved line under the circle as a guide for the jaw/chin. Don't draw this line too low, otherwise your Elastigirl will end up with a big chin.
Step 3: Draw two intersecting lines inside the head, one horizontal and one vertical. The horizontal line should be near the middle of the entire head shape. The vertical line should be close to the left side. These lines will help you place Elastigirl's facial features later.
Step 4: Under Elastigirl's head, draw a line that slopes down to the right as the first part of the guide for the body. Then draw two long lines that come to a point at the bottom to finish the guide for the upper torso. Pay attention to the size of this triangle in relation to the head. Add two lines at the top for the neck.
Step 5: At the tip of the big triangle, draw a curved, horizontal line as the guide for the lower part of Elastigirl's torso. Add a diagonal line on either side to complete the guide. The shape should be similar to a triangle with the top missing.
Step 6: On the left side of the body, draw an angled line as a guide for the first arm. At the bottom tip of the line, draw a small circle as a guide for Elastigirl's fist.
Step 7: On the right side, draw a V- shaped line with a small circle at its tip as a guide for Elastigirl's second arm.
Step 8: Under the torso, on the left side, draw a big U-shaped line as a guide for Elastigirl's first leg. First make a small mark at the bottom to indicate the guide's length, and then add the curved lines. Draw a similar U-shaped line on the right side as a guide for the top part of the second leg.
Step 9: Under each U-shaped line, draw a small circle as a guide for Elastigirl's knees. Under each small circle, draw an oval as a guide for the calf muscles. Pay attention to the combined size of these two shapes in relation to the U-shaped lines.
Step 10: Under each oval, draw a cylinder-like shape as a guide for the shins. Make these cylinder shapes very thin compared to the ovals above them. Under each cylinder, draw a diamond-like shape as a guide for the feet. Elastigirl has very small feet, so don't make these shapes too big.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.
Step 11: Inside the head, lightly sketch two small half-circles for Elastigirl's eyes. Use the initial lines as guides to help you with the placement. When you get the size and position right, darken the eyes. Draw the top line a little longer than the bottom part to emphasize the brows. Don't draw the eyes too far apart. Pay attention to their size and placement relative to the head.
Step 12: Inside each eye, draw a small circle for the irises. The iris on the left should be near the middle of the eye. The iris on the right should be close to the left edge of the eye. Inside each iris, draw a dot for Elastigirl's pupils.
Step 13: Draw Elastigirl's mask as a series of curved lines around the eyes. Sketch the shape of the mask lightly around the eyes. Use the initial lines as guides. The area between the eyes should be narrow, so curve those lines inward. When you get the shape right, darken the lines. The left side of the mask should be pointy. The right side should touch the edge of the head. Add a couple of lines at the top, near the middle, for the furrowed brow.
Step 14: Draw the nose below the eyes as a short, angled line. The bottom of the nose should be very close to the lower edge of the initial circle. Add a couple of short, curved lines on the left side for Elastigirl's nostril.
Step 15: Under the nose, draw a curved, horizontal line for the mouth. On the sides of the mouth, draw a short, curved line for the smile lines. Add the lips above and below the mouth. Elastigirl has thin lips, so draw them as curved lines close to the mouth.
Step 16: Use the initial shapes as guides to draw the lower half of the head. Follow the basic path of the guides and darken the outer edges. Don't darken the top part of the head because that's where Elastigirl's hair will go.
Step 17: Add the hair by first drawing a curved, sloping line right above the mask. The lower part of the hair on the left side should touch the top edge of the mask. On the left side, curve the line upward to indicate where the hair parts. Continue drawing the line to the left for the top part of the hair. Follow the curvature of the initial circle. Elastigirl's hair curves along the guides but is farther away. Add the inside section of the hair next to the face. Draw the jagged bottom edge of the hair and connect it to the outer section on the left.
Step 18: On the top, right side, draw a curved line for the parted hair. Sketch lightly at first, and then darken the line when you get the shape right. Add a pointy line on the lower, right side for the tip of the hair. Draw a couple of curved lines on the left for the ear. Draw a jagged line on the left side of the neck for the lower edge of Elastigirl's hair.
Step 19: Darken the lines under the head to create the neck. Draw a curved line at the bottom and in the middle of the neck for the top part of Elastigirl's super hero costume.
Step 20: Use the angled line on the left side of the body as a guide to draw Elastigirl's first arm. Follow the path of the guide and lightly sketch the shape of the arm around it. The shape should be thinner at the wrist. When you get the arm right, darken the lines. Make the lines curvier where the arm bends for the forearm's muscle structure.
Step 21: Use the circle at the bottom as a guide to draw the fist. Follow the basic path of the circle but make the shape of the fist more blocky. At the bottom , draw a series of short lines to separate the folded fingers and knuckles. At the top, where Elastigirl's arm bends, draw a line for the top of the glove.
Step 22: Use the initial triangle shape as a guide to draw the upper torso. Draw a curved, horizontal line near the middle for Elastigirl's waist. Follow the path of the guide on the right side but curve the line out more for the chest. Inside the torso, on the left, draw a curved line to finish the chest.
Step 23: On the chest, draw the "i" for the Incredibles logo. Add a curved shape on the right. The bold letter i basically consists of a small circle with a small rectangle below it. Add a curved shape on the right. The top of this shape should be thin and the bottom thick. Draw another curved shape on the left. This time the top part should be thick and the bottom thin.
Step 24: Use the V-shaped line on the right as a guide to draw Elastigirl's other arm the same way. Lightly sketch the shape of the arm around the guide. When you get the shape of the arm right, darken the lines. Curve the lines near the bend for the muscle structure and make the wrist thin.
Step 25: Use the small circle at the top as a guide to draw the fist. Draw a small oval on the top, right side of the circle for the thumb. To the right of the thumb, draw a series of short lines for Elastigirl's folded fingers. The fingers are folded into a fist, so draw them as short, curved lines. Draw a wavy line along the right edge of the initial circle to create the knuckles.
Step 26: Draw a curved line under the waist to create the belt. Below that, draw a couple of curved lines that come to a point at the bottom for the lower part of Elastigirl's torso. The bottom part of the super hero costume under the belt should be similar to a curved letter V.
Step 27: Use the shapes on the left side as guides to draw the first leg. Simply darken the outer edges of the initial guides to create the shape of the leg. Make the top part of the leg and the calf wide. The knee and bottom part of the leg should be thin. The boot at the bottom should also be thin. Make the tip pointy. At the top, about halfway on the thigh, draw a sloping line for the top part of Elastigirl's boot.
Step 28: Use the shapes on the right to draw the other leg the same way as the first. Darken the outer edge of the guides to create the shape of Elastigirl's leg. Make the top of the leg wide and the knee thin. The calf should be wide, and the bottom of the leg, including the foot, should be thin. Draw a couple of lines inside the knee and a sloping line at the top for the top of the boot.
Step 29: For a more finished look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker.
Step 30: After inking, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser.
Final Step: Color your Elastigirl drawing using color pencils, markers or crayons! Use dark brown for the bottom part of the hair. Use light brown for the top of the hair to represent shine and to give it volume. Color the face and neck peach. Don't overlap the hair or mask. Use black for the mask, neck, gloves, logo, underpants and boots. As you add the black, apply less pressure to create strips of lighter black and almost white, that represent shine.
Use red for the rest of Elastigirl's super hero costume, except for the logo and belt. Add the color lightly at first and gradually build up to the level of darkness that you like. Use a bit of brown on top of the red to create shadows. Use orange for the belt and the circle of the logo. Color the i of the Incredibles logo yellow. You can add more brown for stronger shadows. Don't forget to pause to draw at your own pace.
