To draw Snorlax step by step, follow along with the video tutorial below and pause the video after each step to go at your own pace. You may find it easier to follow the step-by-step drawings below. The new lines in each step are shown in red, and each step is explained in the text below the photo, so you'll know exactly what to draw in each step. You may want to open the video in a new tab and use both drawing methods! Take your time and draw at your own pace.
The written step-by-step video tutorial:
Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Draw an oval near the top of the paper as a guide for Snorlax's head. First make four marks to determine the circle's height and width. Then connect the marks using curved lines. Make sure that the marks on the sides are slightly farther apart than the marks on the top and bottom. Sketch lightly at first so that it's easy to erase if you make a mistake.
Step 2: Inside the head, draw two intersecting lines as a guide to help you place Snorlax's facial features later. Curve the horizontal line and place it higher than the middle. Draw the vertical line straight and through the middle.
Step 3: On top of the head, off to the sides, draw two small, triangular shapes as guides for Snorlax's ears. Make the bottoms of the shapes wide. Notice how small the ears are in relation to this Pokemon's head.
Step 4: Draw the guide for the body by first making a small mark far below the head. From the head, draw a long line that curves to the right and then meets the mark at the bottom. Make sure the line curves out to the right so that the shape is wide at the bottom. Draw a similar line on the left side for the other side of Snorlax's body. This line should curve outward even more. The shape of the body should be somewhat triangular with curved corners. The bottom edge should be pretty flat.
Step 5: Along the right edge of the body, draw a long, curved line as a guide for the Pokemon's first arm. This line should be similar to a big letter U that's slightly tilted to the left. On the left side, draw a big arc as a guide for Snorlax's other raised arm. This line should also be similar to a big, tilted letter U, only the shape should be upside-down.
Step 6: On the lower, right side of the body, draw a small circle as a guide for the first foot. The circle should overlap the edge of Snorlax's body. On the left side, draw another small circle for the other foot. This circle should overlap the edge of the body too. Notice how small the circles are in relation to the Pokemon's body.
That's it for the guides! For the next steps, use darker lines for a more defined drawing.
Step 7: Inside the head, draw two short, horizontal lines for the closed eyes. Place the eyes above the horizontal construction line and on either side of the vertical line. Below the eyes, in the middle, draw another short, horizontal line for the mouth. On either end of Snorlax's mouth, draw a tiny triangular line for the teeth.
Step 8: Add the shape of the Pokemon's face by first drawing a V-shaped line above the eyes. To the left, draw a curved line that follows the curvature of the initial oval. Keep this curved line close to the edge of the oval. Add a curved line on the right side too. Follow the curvature of the initial oval. The lines should not meet at the bottom.
Step 9: Use the initial oval and triangle shapes as guides to draw the rest of Snorlax's head. Darken the outer edges of the oval and triangles to create the shape of the head combined with the ears. Don't darken the bottom edge of the initial oval.
Step 10: For the claws, draw five tiny triangles on the bottom of the curved line on the right. Draw the triangles on the curved line. Keep the triangles close together. Darken the curved line to create the shape of Snorlax's arm. Don't overlap the claws at the bottom.
Step 11: Draw three small claws on the top edge of the small circle on the right. The claws on Snorlax's feet should be bigger than the claws on the hands. Spread them out more too. Darken the edge of the small circle to create the Pokemon's foot but don't overlap the claws. Inside the foot, draw a small circle for the paw pad.
Step 12: Use the circle on the left as a guide to draw the Pokemon's other foot the same way. Start by drawing three small triangles on the top edge for the claws. Now darken the initial circle to create the foot but don't overlap the claws. Finish Snorlax's foot by drawing a small circle inside for the paw pad.
Step 13: Darken the big shape under the head for Snorlax's body but don't overlap the feet or arms. At the bottom, draw the lines lower toward the feet to create a bit of the Pokemon's legs. Don't connect the body to the head on the upper, left side.
Step 14: Inside the body, draw a big, curved line to separate the colors on Snorlax's body. The top of this line should connect to the line for the face inside the head. This shape should closely parallel the shape of the Pokemon's body. Make it narrow at the top and wide at the bottom.
Step 15: Draw five tiny triangles on the top edge of the curved line on the left for claws. Darken the initial curved line to create the shape of Snorlax's other arm.
Step 16: Go over the final sketch lines with a pen, marker or any other type of permanent ink. Take your time and be careful when you ink to avoid any accidents. After the ink dries, get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser for a cleaner drawing.
Final Step: Color your Snorlax drawing using colored pencils, markers or crayons! Use dark blue-green to color the main part of the body. Use light gray or light yellow to color the inside of the Pokemon's body. Color the foot pads light brown. Don't forget to pause the video to draw at your own pace.
