Intro: Start drawing Ash Ketchum from Pokemon with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

Step 1: Start drawing Ash Ketchum with a rectangle that has rounded edges and slightly bulges out at the sides. This will be Ash Ketchum’s head.

 

Step 2: Next, draw an intersecting vertical line down the middle of Ash Ketchum's head shape that bends slightly to the left. Draw two horizontal lines, one just above the middle of the head shape and another near the bottom of the head shape. These will be construction lines that will help you place Ash Ketchum’s features later on.

 

Step 3: Now sketch Ash Ketchum’s cap. Draw a curve above of the top horizontal construction line. Extend this curve outside of the main head shape a little. Connect the right tip of that line to the top of the head shape; instead of darkening in the original construction line, draw this line outside of the head shape. Now draw in the bill of Ash Ketchum’s hat. Below the horizontal curve you just drew, draw a wavy line that curves slightly upward in where it crosses with the vertical construction line.

 

Step 4: Now draw in the shape of Ash Ketchum’s face. Draw a line that starts on the left side below Ash's cap and curves inward towards the middle of the head shape. Then make this line come back out to meet the bottom left corner of the original head shape. This is Ash Ketchum's cheek. Make an extra wide V shape to make his chin. From the right side of this V shape, draw a vertical line up to the brim of the cap. This last line should be inside Ash Ketchum's main head shape.

 

Step 5: Sketch Ash Ketchum’s eyes by drawing to upside-down Us on top of the top horizontal construction line on either side of Ash's face. Draw the top of the curved U shape close to the bottom of his cap. Connect the points of the U shapes together at the horizontal construction line. Draw Ash Ketchum’s ears with C-shaped curves on either side of his head. The left ear should be in the middle of the horizontal line while the right ear should start at the horizontal line.

Step 6: Starting where the top horizontal construction line meets the vertical construction line, draw Ash Ketchum's nose by making a small shape that kind of looks like an arrow pointing to the left. Below Ash's nose, draw a downward-pointing triangle that is slightly tilted to the left. This will be Ash Ketchum’s mouth.

 

Step 7: That's it for the initial sketch of Ash Ketchum from Pokemon! You have the basic Ash Ketchum shape, so now you will go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

 

Step 8: Darken in all the lines that make up Ash Ketchum’s cap. Draw an extra line on the bill of his cap that follows the same curvature as the original. Draw a small curve on top of the cap where the vertical construction line ends. Also, draw the symbol on Ash's cap that looks kind of like a triangle or a C shape.

 

Step 9: Tighten the rest of Ash Ketchum’s head and ears. Draw some lines within the shape of his ear to represent the inside of Ash's ear. These lines look sort of like a backwards question mark.

 

Step 10: Now draw in Ash Ketchum's hair. The left side of the hair starts at the left tip of Ash's cap and goes down in a series of zigzags that resemble partial triangles. It ends at the bottom of his left ear. The hair in the middle of Ash Ketchum’s face resembles an uneven and tilted W shape. Use the vertical construction line and the top of the left eye as a guide.

Step 11: The right side of Ash Ketchum's hair is just like the left side. It starts at the bottom of his cap and ends at the bottom of his right ear. Draw this side is bigger and give it four spikes.

 

Step 12: Darken in the shapes of Ash Ketchum’s eyes and draw two very tall, skinny ovals inside of them. These will be Ash's pupils. Shade in the pupils except for a smaller oval at the top. Draw two diagonal lines on top of each eye to represent Ash Ketchum's eyebrows.

 

Step 13: Darken in Ash Ketchum’s nose and mouth. Give his mouth a more rounded shape and draw a curve in the middle of it to represent his tongue. Draw a sketchy squiggle on each of Ash Ketchum's cheeks for style.

 

Step 14: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Ash Ketchum from Pokemon. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

 

Step 15: For a more finished, inked look of Ash Ketchum, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. Final Step: For a completely finished Ash Ketchum drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color the logo on Ash's cap green. The side, bill and top of his cap are red. Ash Ketchum's hair is black, his tongue is pink, and the inside of his mouth is dark brown. Ash's skin is a peach color; if you don’t have peach, improvise and use yellow-orange or light brown. Experiment! That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Ash Ketchum from Pokemon.
