Intro: Start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: Start by drawing a circle on the top left part of the paper. It doesn’t need to be perfect. it’s just a basic shape for Twilight Sparkle’s head.
Step 2: Inside the circle draw two intersecting lines, one horizontal and one vertical. The vertical line should be close to the left side of the circle, and the horizontal line should be close to the middle. Bend the lines as they contour to the shape of the sphere. These are construction lines that will help you place Twilight Sparkle's facial features later on.
Step 3: On top of the horizontal construction line, draw two ovals as guides for Twilight Sparkle's eyes. Draw the oval on the left side of the vertical construction line smaller because of the perspective.
Step 4: Below the head draw a bigger oval lying on its side. This will be a guide for Twilight Sparkle’s torso.
Step 5: Under Twilight Sparkle's torso, draw two slightly curved lines as guides for the feet. The legs should be about the same length as the length between the bottom of the head to the bottom of the torso.
Step 6: Draw two curved lines that extend from below Twilight Sparkle's head down to the top of the torso to create the neck. On the right side of Twilight Sparkle's torso, draw a long curved line as a guide for her tail.
Step 7: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Twilight Sparkle shape, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 8: Draw her ear on the upper right side of Twilight Sparkle's head. It kind of looks like an upside-down letter V with the sides bulging out a bit. Draw a small line within in for detail.
Step 9: Draw Twilight Sparkle's unicorn horn sitting on top of her head to the left of the vertical construction line. It looks like another upside-down letter V with a rounded top. Draw two lines within it for detail.
Step 10: Twilight Sparkle's mane is a bit tricky, so it’s divided into three parts. First draw the top of her bangs sitting on top of her head. It’s similar to a wavy rectangle that begins at the ear, goes around the horn, goes over her eye and back to her ear.
Step 11: Use the right side of Twilight Sparkle's neck and the lower part of her head to draw the part of the mane that’s over her neck.
Step 12: Finish up Twilight Sparkle's mane by drawing a few curved lines within it for extra detail.
Step 13: Using the initial ovals as guides, draw Twilight Sparkle's eyes. Draw a few eyelashes on each eye. Inside Twilight Sparkle's eyes, draw two circles, one for her iris and the other for her pupil. Shade in the pupil except for two smaller circles that represent glare.
Step 14: Draw Twilight Sparkle's muzzle, which begins at the bottom of the left eye, extends out of the original circle, goes down a bit, and then goes back in toward the original circle again. Draw a small curved line for Twilight Sparkle's smiling mouth and an even smaller line for her nostril.
Step 15: Use the lines as guides to draw Twilight Sparkle's front feet. Just thicken up her legs, making sure to draw them a bit thinner at the top and flat at the bottom.
Step 16: Do the same thing to draw Twilight Sparkle's hind legs. Again, draw them thin on top and wider at the bottom. Also draw a small angle on the top right side of Twilight Sparkle's leg.
Step 17: Darken in the visible part of Twilight Sparkle's body and neck by using the initial lines and shapes as guides when drawing.
Step 18: Using the initial line as a guide, draw Twilight Sparkle's tail. Draw the tail very wide at the bottom and thin at the top. Draw a couple of lines within it for detail.
Step 19: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 20: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Twilight Sparkle! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Twilight Sparkle drawing.
Final Step: For a completely finished Twilight Sparkle drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Draw the first part of Twilight Sparkle's cutie mark on her upper thigh. Use pink to draw a six-pointed star and come back to the rest later. Use the same pink to draw a stripe in her bangs, mane and tail. Next to each pink stripe, draw another purple stripe and color her eyes with the same purple. The rest of her mane is blue. Twilight Sparkle's body is light purple, but don't color in several places around her cutie mark. Give the star six more triangular points in between the main pink points of the star. Also create five smaller stars around the main star by leaving them blank. When completing the cutie mark, use the image above for further reference. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.
