How to Draw Bugs Bunny

Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw Bugs Bunny from the Looney Tunes cartoons. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!

Intro: Start drawing Bugs Bunny with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 1

Step 1: To draw Bugs Bunny, start with a circle on the page. This will be Bugs Bunny's head. Draw the circle on the bottom half of the paper and don't make it too big because you need room for Bugs Bunny's long ears.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 2

Step 2: Next draw two intersecting lines across the circle, a vertical one and a horizontal one. When drawing the lines, bend them so that they follow the contour shape of a sphere. These will be construction lines that will help you place Bugs Bunny's features later on.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 3

Step 3: Where the line intersect draw an upside down triangle. This will be Bugs Bunny's nose. Don't make the triangle too big because Bugs Bunny has a small nose. Starting at the upper left corner of a triangle, draw a large oval. Its left side should extend past the outside circle. Draw a smaller circle starting on the opposite side of Bugs Bunny's nose, and this circle should extend to the outside of the original circle. These will be this Looney Tunes character's cheeks.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 4

Step 4: Starting from the top of the left cheek and slightly inside the original circle, draw an upside-down U that curves around the top of the original circle and ends at the top of the right cheek circle. This will be Bugs Bunny's head.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 5

Step 5: On the top of the upside-down U (his head), roughly draw two feather shapes that are the length of about one and a half times the size of the original circle. These will be Bugs Bunny's ears. Draw two small lines at the bottom of the main circle to create this cartoon character's neck.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 6

Step 6: Place the right eye by drawing an upside-down U that is squeezed in between the vertical construction line and the right line of his head. Draw the left eye as another upside-down U on top of the left cheek oval. Draw this U slightly taller because of perspective.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 7

Step 7: Now draw Bugs Bunny's mouth by making a small, wide arc below his nose. Add two horizontal lines from the top of the arc that extend to either side of his face. This will be the top of his mouth. Draw a big wide U-shaped arc beneath those two lines, which will be the bottom of Bugs Bunny's mouth.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 8

Step 8: That's it for the initial sketch of Bugs Bunny from the Looney Tunes cartoons! You have the basic Bugs Bunny shape, so now you will go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 9

Step 9: Start by connecting Bugs Bunny's cheeks to his neck and darkening those lines. Draw three tufts of fur on either side of his cheeks. Draw a line on the inside of this cartoon character's neck where his gray fur meets the white.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 10

Step 10: Draw Bugs Bunny some pupils in the left corners of his eyes. Darken in his nose and draw a line above it to complete the nose. Make two upside-down Us above his eyes, which will be his brow lines. The left arc goes right above the eye while the right one actually touches the eye.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 11

Step 11: Darken in Bugs Bunny's head and ears. Draw two more leaf shapes inside each ear to represent the inside of his ears. Draw three tufts of hair on top of Bugs Bunny's head between his ears.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 12

Step 12: Define Bugs Bunny's upper lip by making the arc just below his nose into two separate wave shapes. Draw an angular U-shaped arc below his top lip you just defined, which will be his buck teeth. Draw a small vertical line to divide the teeth. Draw two small arcs inside Bugs Bunny's mouth to create his tongue, and add a small arc below his mouth to make his lower lip.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 13

Step 13: Draw three quick horizontal strokes on either side of Bugs Bunny's upper lip for his whiskers.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 14

Step 14: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Bugs Bunny from the Looney Tunes cartoons. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

Draw Bugs Bunny Step 15

Step 15: For a more finished, inked look, carefully go over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Bugs Bunny from the Looney Tunes cartoons! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Bugs Bunny.

Draw Bugs Bunny Completed Drawing

Final Step: For a completely finished Bugs Bunny drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Bugs Bunny is an easy character to color. Color his main fur gray. The inside of his ears, nose and tongue are pink. You can vary the pink color by pressing harder for his tongue and nose, and coloring lightly for his lighter-colored ears. The inside of Bugs Bunny's mouth is a dark red, almost brown color. And that's it! You now have a completed drawing of Bugs Bunny from the Looney Tunes cartoons.
