Intro: Start drawing Cookie Monster with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: To draw Cookie Monster, start with a wide, slightly tilted oval on the top of the page, and make sure to leave room so you can draw Cookie Monster's body later on. This oval will be the basic shape for Cookie Monster's head, and drawing it tilted will make Cookie Monster have that crazy look he's known for.
Step 2: Next, draw a vertical line that intersects the oval in half and a horizontal line that is closer to the top of the oval. These will be construction lines that will help you place Cookie Monster's facial features later on.
Step 3: Draw two circles on top of the oval for Cookie Monster's eyes. The circles should be drawn on either side of the vertical construction line. Below the horizontal line, draw a wide U-shaped curve. This will be Cookie Monster's mouth.
Step 4: Now draw basic shapes for Cookie Monster's body and hands. To draw his body, draw two lines that come down from the bottom of his head. Draw the left line shorter than the right line. Draw Cookie Monster's hands on either side of his body, and make them look like giant upside-down U's.
Step 5: Using the big upside-down U's as guides, draw a series of curves to define his hands a bit more by giving him fingers. Draw three fingers and a thumb on each of Cookie Monster's hands.
Step 6: When drawing Cookie Monster, you have to also draw him some cookies! Draw a couple of cookies by drawing two crescent moon shapes at the very top of Cookie Monster's hands.
Step 7: That's it for the initial sketch of Cookie Monster from Sesame Street! You have the basic Cookie Monster shape, so now you will go in and will tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 8: Darken in Cookie Monster's eyes. Inside his eyes, draw two circles for his pupils. Cookie Monster has googly eyes, so draw his pupils off-center to make him look a bit crazy.
Step 9: Now tighten Cookie Monster's mouth. Cookie Monster is a furry character, so when you darken in his upper lip, draw it using a series of curves while still following the main shape. Draw his bottom lip as a plain U shape without the series of furry curves.
Step 10: Use the main shape of Cookie Monster's head as a guide, and draw his furry head using a series of curves and rounded spikes to represent his fur.
Step 11: Finish drawing Cookie Monster's hands using the same “furry” technique, and give his fingers more shape by rounding them out slightly.
Step 12: Tighten the shape of the cookies that Cookie Monster is holding by drawing a series of curves to represent bite marks. Draw a few tiny circles inside the cookies to represent chocolate chips.
Step 13: Finish drawing Cookie Monster's body by again using a series of curves and rounded spikes to make him look hairy.
Step 14: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of Cookie Monster from Sesame Street. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 15: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of Cookie Monster from Sesame Street! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your Cookie Monster drawing.
Final Step For a completely finished Cookie Monster drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Cookie Monster is a very simple character to color. Just color his face, hands and body blue and the inside of his mouth black. That's it! You now have a completed drawing of Cookie Monster from Sesame Street.
