How to Draw The Count
Use the video and step-by-step drawing instructions below to learn how to draw The Count from Sesame Street. A new cartoon drawing tutorial is uploaded every week, so stay tooned!
Intro: Start drawing The Count with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don't press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.
Step 1: To draw The Count, start with a circle in the middle of the page. This will be the basic shape for The Count's head.
Step 2: Next, draw two intersecting lines (One… two. Two intersecting lines! Ah ah ah!) across the circle, with one vertical and one horizontal. When drawing the lines, curve them a little to follow the shape of the circle. These will be construction lines that will help you place The Count's features later on.
Step 3: Now draw two circles on either side of the vertical line that sit on top of the horizontal line. Draw the right circle closer to the vertical line because of the perspective. These are basic shapes for The Count's eyes. Below the horizontal construction line, draw a big shape that looks like a capital letter D on its side. This will be The Count's mouth.
Step 4: On either side of his head, draw two angles that end up looking like triangles. These will be The Count's ears. In the middle of his face, draw a diamond shape that starts at the top of his eyes and goes down into his mouth. This will be The Count's nose.
Step 5: That's it for the initial sketch of The Count from Sesame Street! You have the basic shape for The Count, so now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.
Step 6: Darken in the shapes of The Count's eyes and draw a flat football shape inside each eye to create his eyelids. Draw two circles inside each eye for his pupils and shade them in.
Step 7: Tighten the shape of The Count's nose by rounding the edges and drawing a vertical line down it that's somewhat parallel to the vertical construction line.
Step 8: Draw a shape that looks like a check mark or boomerang above each of The Count's eyes for eyebrows.
Step 9: Darken the shape of The Count's mouth and make the top line come out a little over the curved bottom. Draw two small triangles for his fangs and a curved V-shape for his tongue beneath his fangs.
Step 10: Darken in the top of The Count's head and draw in his widow's peak by drawing in a shape similar to a wide letter M that extends below the horizontal construction line on either side.
Step 11: Draw in the bottom of The Count's head by following the original circle shape, but curve the lines up a little near his chin to make the top of his beard. Draw the bottom of his beard with a series rounded spikes below his face.
Step 12: Tighten the shapes of The Count's ears by making them more round. Draw in a circle that encompasses the right eye to represent his monocle.
Step 13: To do the top part of The Count's tuxedo, draw in a shape that looks like a rounded letter V below his beard. Draw in a couple of lines inside the V shape to represent the sash he wears.
Step 14: Draw the collar for The Count's jacket with a zigzag line on either side of the V shape. Draw another couple of lines inside the V shape near his beard to make the collar of his shirt. The Count has a white bow, but his beard is blocking it.
Step 15: Finish drawing The Count's outfit by drawing in the collar of his cape. Just draw in three rounded V shapes – one on top of his head and two on either side of his head below his ears.
Step 16: That's it! You now have a nice sketch of The Count from Sesame Street. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.
Step 17: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. You now have a finished inked drawing of The Count from Sesame Street! You can stop here or go to the final step to complete your drawing of The Count.
Step 18: For a completely finished drawing of The Count, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! Color The Count's hair, eyebrows, inside of his mouth, beard and tuxedo collar black. His face is a light violet. Color the inside of the monocle light blue for a glassy feel. His tongue and top part of his sash is red. The bottom part of his sash is yellow, and his cape's collar is dark green. That's it! You now have a completed drawing of The Count from Sesame Street.
