When learning how to draw Sub-Zero, start off with a pencil sketch. In the beginning stages, don’t press down too hard. Use light, smooth strokes for sketching.

 

Step 1: Start by drawing a circle near the top half of the page. The circle doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s just a guide for the top of Sub-Zero's head. Leave enough room at the bottom so you can draw the lower part of his head.

 

Step 2: Under the circle, draw an arc similar to the letter U as a guide for Sub-Zero's jaw and chin. The distance from the lower part of the circle to the lower part of the U-shaped arc should be a bit less than the entire height of the circle. Both of the shapes combined form the guide for Sub-Zero's head.

 

Step 3: Draw a vertical line that splits the head shape in half. This is a construction line that will help when you're learning how to draw Sub-Zero's facial features later on.

 

Step 4: Draw two small shapes as guides for Sub-Zero's eyes. Draw them on either side of the vertical construction line and sitting on top of the lower part of the circle. Sub-Zero's eyes should be similar in shape to little footballs.

 

Step 5: That’s it for the initial sketch! You have the basic Sub-Zero shape. Now go in and tighten your drawing. From this point on, press harder with your pencil in order to get darker lines and a more defined sketch.

Step 6: Draw a thick, angled line shape on top of each eye for Sub-Zero's furrowed eyebrows. The shape of the eyebrows should come to a point on the sides. Between the eyebrows, draw a couple of small lines for Sub-Zero's wrinkled skin.

 

Step 7: Darken the football shapes to create Sub-Zero's eyes. Inside each eye, draw a circle for the irises. Inside each iris, draw a dot for Sub-Zero's pupils. On the side of each pupil, draw a tiny circle to represent glare.

 

Step 8: Drawing Sub-Zero's mask is a bit tricky, so it's divided into five steps. First use the lower arc on the head as a guide to draw the outline of the mask. Use the bottom part of the original circle as a guide for the top of the mask that looks similar to a wide letter W. Then follow the path of the arc and make the sides more angled as you darken the line.

 

Step 9: Draw the mouthpiece where Sub-Zero's nose and mouth should be. This shape is similar to a long pentagon. Add a a diagonal line to each side corner of the pentagon.

 

Step 10: Inside the pentagon shape on Sub-Zero's mask, draw three shapes that are similar to boomerangs. The top shape should be bigger, and they should get smaller as they go down.

Step 11: On each side of the mask where Sub-Zero's cheeks should be, draw an oval. Inside each oval draw a curved line. This line makes the ovals more like three-dimensional holes on the sides of Sub-Zero's mask.

 

Step 12: Finish up Sub-Zero's mask by drawing a couple of lines that extend from the ovals toward the back of the head. The lines should get narrower the farther back they go. Draw another smaller curved line inside each oval for extra detail.

 

Step 13: Draw the hood over Sub-Zero's head by using the top of the initial circle as a guide. Darken the top of the circle and make the sides a bit more narrow. Then draw a wavy line above the eyes for the hood's opening.

 

Step 14: Draw an extra line parallel to the hood's opening for a thicker appearance on the edge of Sub-Zero's hood. Draw a couple of curved lines inside the hood for extra detail and so there isn't too much empty space on Sub-Zero's head.

 

Step 15: Draw some lines throughout Sub-Zero's head and face for extra detail. Draw a few curved lines within the hood to simulate his head inside. Draw a couple of lines around the eye on the left side for Sub-Zero's scar. Also draw some lines under each eye for extra detail.

Step 16: That’s it! You now have a nice sketch of Sub-Zero from the Mortal Kombat video games. You can stop at this quick drawing for a rough, sketchy look or go for a more finished look by continuing to the step below.

 

Step 17: For a more finished, inked look, carefully draw over the final sketch lines with a pen or marker. Wait for the ink to dry, and then get rid of every pencil mark with an eraser. Final Step: For a completely finished Sub-Zero drawing, you have to color it. You can use markers, color pencils or even crayons! The hood and the detail on Sub-Zero's mask are black. The eyebrows and mouthpiece on the mask are gray. His skin is peach. If you don't have peach, improvise and use light brown or yellow-orange. Experiment! Sub-Zero's scar is pink, and his eyes are light blue. The rest of the mask is blue. That’s it! You now have a completed drawing of the Sub-Zero from the Mortal Kombat video games.
